Description

Emergency Room (ER) Nurses are critical care medical practitioners who help doctors in medical emergencies. ER Nurses are expected to assist doctors, perform minor medical operations, and treat patients experiencing a critical injury, allergic reactions, or trauma.

Requirements

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Being ready to respond and equipped to deal with a medical emergency.

• Quickly assessing patient needs.

• Treating critical injuries, allergic reactions, and trauma.

• Performing minor medical operations.

• Cleaning wounds.

• Drawing blood.

• Maintaining emergency room care standards.

• Assisting with insurance paperwork.

• Ensuring the efficiency of the patient check-in process.

• Displaying strong decision-making skills in emergency scenarios.

• Supports nursing care standards through adherence to existing policies and procedures.

• Participates in peer review as appropriate.

• Obtains and documents nursing history from patients and/or significant others that is comprehensive of present condition and prior problems. Performs basic assessment of patients, indicating adequate knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology. Records vital signs, notes changes, and pursues more-specific investigations as needed. Identifies abnormal diagnostic data and shows a fundamental understanding of its implications by reporting information to the physician and others caring for the patient, and by incorporating information in the nursing care plan.

• Evaluates and notes the patient's response to nursing care defined in the medical record.

• Assumes responsibility for professional growth by current reading and attendance at educational programs and unit conferences.

• Completes other duties as assigned.

• Adheres to the facility’s Standard of Excellence.

Education and Experience:

• Current license to practice nursing in the state.

• Minimum of six month of recent experience as a professional nurse.

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

• Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and reaching

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
