The Financial Operations Staff Accountant is primarily responsible for supporting the Financial Operations team by delivering world class service to internal and external clients of MidAmerica. 

The Financial Operations Staff Accountant will cover a wide range of responsibilities and touch multiple areas within Financial Operations. These areas include reconciliation, compliance, distributions/payments, contributions/deposits, and trading. The incumbent will need to be flexible and challenged to gain expertise in several different areas quickly. In many of these areas, the Staff Accountant will work in tandem with other team members to ensure processes are completed timely and accurately. The key to success is the incumbent’s ability to work effectively as part of a team. The incumbent will have a thorough understanding of accounting principles and exceptional attention to detail. The ability to troubleshoot and recognize errors is essential to the role.


o Perform reconciliation between reporting from our recordkeeping systems, general ledger, investment custodians and banks along with other members of the reconciliation team. Identify and resolve reconciling items timely.

o Process tax payments timely and accurately. Assist in preparation of annual 1099’s and Form 945 returns.

o Process participant distributions and issuing payments for all plan types, including accurate posting in general ledger and other recordkeeping systems.

o Process employer contributions and other deposits, including accurate posting in general ledger and other recordkeeping systems.

o Research assigned participant and employer inquiries thoroughly to provide timely and complete answers the first time.

o Process funding requests from employers and investment custodians.

o Process trading files with external custodians, ensuring daily trades are recorded accurately and promptly, resolving discrepancies.

o Perform billing, funding and reconciliation activities for admin fees.


o Answer or escalate internal questions with a strong understanding of MidAmerica’s product offerings.

o Consistently achieve data integrity and drive to meet quality metrics and goals.

o Continuously evaluate and identify opportunities to drive process improvements to ensure efficiency and consistency in execution.

o Deliver exceptional on-demand client support for clients and partners resulting in high customer satisfaction ratings at MidAmerica.

o Provide ad hoc reporting as requested.

o Develop successful and effective working relationships within team and with other departments.

o Ability to provide professional and articulate written and verbal communication.

o Back up other team members and effectively perform their duties when they are on vacation or unavailable.

o Must routinely meet daily, weekly, and monthly deadlines.

o Ability to work with highly sensitive financial information.


o Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or another Finance-related field required.

o Detail oriented with strong analytical, communication, and evaluation skills.

o Understanding of accounting principles.

o Motivated and eager to learn and grow accounting skills within a small, private equity owned company.

o Ability to work independently and collaboratively with team members.

o Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel (demonstrated ability) and the willingness to learn new systems as required.

o Must have superior organizational skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize (time management).

o Benefits administration industry experience preferred.

o Familiarity with Great Plains preferred.

o In office attendance required.
