The Employment Specialist will serve as the lead in creating more opportunities in employment for our Students and Alumni. This role will build strong relationships with our Partners offering employment opportunities and monitor the success of our students/alumni at these partnerships. The Employment Specialist will lead special projects to increase employment opportunities and provide on-going professional development for Alumni during Year 2.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Initiate and proactively develop strong relationships with alumni and students, as well as program and AmeriCorps staff, Partners, and coordinate their involvement to support students/alumni in their Career Paths.
- Assist in the development of the College and Career Readiness curriculum and Provide direct instruction for the course.
- Create employment opportunities for Students and Alumni that will allow them to gain experience in fields they are interested in as well as financial stability.
- Manage quarterly placement documentation for Year 2
- Monitor retention and evaluation of placements to determine ongoing involvement with the Partnerships.
- Assist in the development and implementation of a Job Board for our Alumni and Partners.
- Manage the Alumni Professional Development Calendar and organize the monthly events on Professional Development.
- Conduct individual meetings with students/Alumni to determine and prepare for appropriate employment opportunities.
- Provide specific communication and reminders to Students, Staff, and Alumni on up and coming events with detailed information.
- Assist with students who go inactive during Year 1 with planning.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (exceptional candidates with an Associate’s degree or significant experience may be considered)
- At least three years of experience in youth development, workforce development, college access, transition services and/or as employer of young adults
- Intermediate to Advanced skills in Google products, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as the ability to integrate a wide-range of technology and data management into daily work
- High level of professionalism and customer-service skills Strong communication skills and ability to present to large groups
- Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented project completion skills
- Desire to primarily focus on developing partnerships and designing program experiences
- Commitment to preparing students/alumni for postsecondary options and willingness to promote a wide range of education, careers, year of service, armed forces and other options
- Ability to travel to locations, organizations or events in the City of Philadelphia and surrounding counties
- Basic familiarity with employment tools (resumes, etc), colleges, and federal financial aid/FAFSA
- Experience managing partnerships
- Knowledge of Philadelphia postsecondary education institutions and/or labor market Interest in researching, innovating, and designing programs that guide alumni towards adult self sufficiency
- Experience in classroom instruction, training delivery or workshop facilitation
- Experience in planning and implementing program or event logistics
