Job Type

Product Marketing Manager

Full-time Remote, or Hybrid options available in the Dallas area. Strong preference for candidates in Dallas, Portland OR, or Denver areas.

BackBox is a vendor-agnostic network automation product that automates critical network operations tasks like configuration backup and restore, config grooming and standards enforcement, and security and compliance tasks.

With BackBox you can automate any action that can be performed remotely on a device, including configuration orchestration, asset inventory and management, backup and recovery, CVE remediation, validating policy or regulatory compliance, and more.

With over 500 customers globally and a customer satisfaction rating of 94 percent, BackBox is hardly a startup - but the opportunity to participate in defining the network automation market is happening now, so we are moving like one.

BackBox is seeking a Product Marketing Manager to navigate a new and rapidly evolving space, define our position in it, and leverage our strengths to dominate that position globally.

What it is....

Working closely with the Product Management team and reporting directly to the VP of Marketing, The PMM will play a critical role in evolving our go-to-market strategy and achieving global growth targets. Your primary focus will be on refining and solidifying our position in the market and enabling the sales and CSM teams to articulate that vision accurately, to the right buyers, to close new business. You will drive marketing research and engage in customer and analyst dialogs to identify new insights and opportunities, better understand our buyers and their needs, and help shape future products and delivery models.

What it is not....

This is not a writing job! As the marketing department’s resident expert on product and market fit, your expertise will be leveraged in the production of marketing collateral, sales tools, and customer communications, but you will be paired with a writer who will do the heavy lifting of putting pen to paper. The target process is for the PMM to provide an initial outline and participate in an information-gathering “interview” with a writer, then provide feedback and revisions on drafts produced by the writer until the finished asset is achieved.

Also, not a campaigns job! With a Marketing Operations Manager already in place and a VP who has a demand Gen background, the mechanics of how to achieve bookings targets per product, vertical, or geography are in good hands. Your expertise is better applied to working with PM to determine what those targets should be, and how best to communicate what we do and why it matters, in order to achieve them and accelerate the sales cycle.

  • Conduct Win/Loss Interviews and translate learnings to actionable insights for the marketing, sales, and CSM organizations.
  • Conduct analyst briefings and inquiries and communicate learning to the rest of the organization.

  • Execute and track product milestones and action items, risks, and mitigation plans.
  • Develop solid working relationships with cross-functional teams to best understand and deliver on business goals and priorities.
  • Prepare presentations and clearly communicate findings from initiatives to management and to the broader organization.
  • Partner across marketing to create compelling customer-facing content such as demo videos, website content, and decks to communicate the benefits of our solutions.

  • Candidates must have at least 18 months of product marketing or product management experience.
  • The more experience you have with computer networking, either in a PMM capacity or as a practitioner, the better.
  • Experience working with Product and Engineering teams to apply brand positioning and consumer insights into product strategies is essential.
  • Experience planning and managing large-scale, complex projects and coordinating and collaborating with cross-functional team members, both internal and external, to deliver quality results on time will be very important.
  • You will have successfully built systems and processes from the ground up, frequently with limited existing structure.

Who you are....

  • A strategist with strong critical thinking ability
  • A top-notch project manager – able to manage multiple initiatives at once with speed and high-quality detail
  • An excellent communicator – written and verbal, to work with many members of the organization
  • Intellectually curious with a high drive for excellence and success
