Job Overview

The Operations Manager – Supply Chain, US is part of the North American Tactical Operations Team and reports to the Director of Operations, North America.  This is an important role which will manage day-to-day relationships with freight and logistics vendors. Additionally, this individual will oversee procurement of collection supplies and the production of recycled / upcycled products.

The Tactical Operations Team is responsible for partnering with other cross-functional departments to facilitate the collection of waste material across a variety of recycling programs ranging from cigarette butts to flexible food packaging. These programs utilize different logistics models to collect waste including national mail back programs (UPS, FedEx, & USPS), freight programs (LTL & FTL), and Retail pick-ups (route logistics). The Tactical Operations Team moves the waste through our material recovery facilities (MRFs) downstream to processors. Some outputs are be converted into post-consumer raw materials which may be utilized in the production of recycled products for our customers.

The Operations Manager – Supply Chain will manage a team tasked with freight logistics, supplies procurement, and production of recycled / upcycled products on the Tactical Operations Team. Freight management includes small parcel, domestic LTL / FTL, and international import / export. Supplies procurement covers a variety of materials required to support TerraCycle’s waste collection efforts. Lastly, production management includes working with internal and external stakeholders to deliver 3rd-party manufactured products. This role requires hands-on project management and day-to-day vendor management. 

The successful candidate should be an excellent vendor manager with outstanding communication and negotiation skills. They must possess a proven track record of management experience with the ability to lead a team and work autonomously. This role requires a proactive individual who can adapt to a fast-paced, high-volume work environment. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to implement current processes while identifying ways to improve future operations.

Job Responsibilities 

  • Work closely with the Director of Operations to understand short-term and long-term department and company goals
  • Lead teams supporting logistics & production vendors – both internal & external
  • Identify, source, and manage vendors to support new business objectives
  • Manage vendors closely to ensure high service levels and competitive rates
  • Manage reporting requirements to improve traceability throughout the supply chain
  • Identify opportunities to streamline the supply chain – including documentation and training
  • Develop team members to facilitate personal and career growth – currently 2 direct reports

 Requirements / Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in operations, supply chain, procurement, and / or freight logistics
  • Excellent communications skills and confidence speaking to all levels within the company
  • Proactive and solution-focused manager
  • Driven to succeed and continually grow role within the company

· Cool under pressure, able to work effectively in a constantly changing environment

  • Strong vendor management skills including contract management, negotiations, and reporting
  • Top-notch communication and organization skills including project management
  • Knowledge of various freight modes (road, rail, sea, & air) including LTL, FTL, and specialized transport (import / export, route logistics) and small package (UPS, FedEx, USPS)

· Effective working both independently and part of a team

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel) & Google Suite applications
  • Experience with a WMS system would be beneficial
  • A demonstrated interest in sustainable / green business is a plus!
