The Director of Public Relations & Communications will oversee Meow Wolf’s external communications. This insanely talented individual will build our awareness with national and international communities. 

As Director of Public & Communications, you must have a proven ability to create strong press strategy, messaging, newsworthy events and pitches, story ideas, and follow through with pitch leads and creative digital execution. You will play an integral role in maximizing Meow Wolf’s presence on a variety of channels as well as cultivate and maintain relationships with the media and influential professionals.


How you will do it…

  • Develop and execute a strategic communications plan across all Meow Wolf brand initiatives, including Meow Wolf exhibition positioning and expansion, key business messages, national and international awareness, artist and creator storytelling, social impact, and key announcements.
  • Support writing and positioning of both internal and external messaging, including employee announcements and executive communications.
  • Develop earned media channel partnerships to support Meow Wolf’s growth objectives. 
  • Begin to grow brand awareness both domestically and internationally through earned media strategy in the open & planned Meow Wolf locations (Santa Fe, Las Vegas, Denver, and beyond).
  • Work closely with location based operational departments on marketing promotions, community sponsorships, and events
  • Mentor local PR managers (dotted line management) for local and regional press and activations.
  • Manage our national public relations agency to ensure both proactive and reactive earned media opportunities are as strategic and optimized as possible.
  • Proactively seek out opportunities for brand building and visibility through national and international awards, conferences and speaking engagements, and other distinctions.
  • Represent the company at high profile events, conferences, and other activities; train and build presentations for executive and leadership staff present at other conferences and high-profile events.
  • Manage media training for employee representation at events, conferences, and press.
  • Write press releases and prepare talking points for employees and spokespeople throughout the company for conferences, events, and interviews.
  • Manage production of presentations by employees at events and conferences.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with media and influential professionals.
  • Ensure brand consistency in all marketing efforts; Manage sensitive issues to maintain company’s good reputation.
  • Organize PR and community events when needed.
  • Track media coverage and report on PR campaigns’ results.

To be successful in this role…

  • You possess strong communication, management, organizational, and writing skills along with media relationships across entertainment, travel, tourism, culture, and business press.
  • You have proven success with national and ideally international brand building through communications and earned media representation. 
  • You demonstrate top notch written communications skills (from press releases to talking points to presentations) a strong sense of quality and a creative mind set.
  • You possess strong and effective interpersonal skills.
  • You have created strong press strategy, corporate messaging, newsworthy events and pitches, story ideas and follow through with pitch leads and creative digital execution.
  • You have effectively established relationships with national media and the personality to maximize these contacts.
  • You are a self-starter that can multitask, prioritize and work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
  • Proficiency in leveraging public relations tools, social media networks and related monitoring tools.

What you will bring…

  • You bring 10 to 15 years of  experience in marketing, communications and/or public relations.
  • You have a BA in Journalism, Marketing or Communications or equivalent experience in public relations, journalism and/or marketing communications. MBA preferred.

Work environment & physical demands…

  • This is a full-time position, averaging 40 hours a week –Monday to Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
  • This position does require supervisory responsibility.
  • This position works in a professional office in Santa Fe, NM. This position has flexibility to work remotely from home when not needed on site or location.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, see, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.

  • Some travel may be required at times. Up to <25% out of state exhibition travel required (Santa Fe, Vegas, Denver, etc).
