The Lutheran Center (national office) is located in Chicago, Illinois. A staff of 400, under the leadership of the Presiding Bishop, serve as administrators, advisors, conveners, partners, and resource people for the ELCA and its ministries. Staff lead the work of national, domestic, and global ministries and programs including Lutheran Disaster Response, ELCA World Hunger, Service & Justice, Christian Community and Leadership, and Innovation.  We are also home to five of our separately incorporated ministries: The Mission Investment Fund of the ELCA, Women of the ELCA, Lutheran Men in Mission, the ELCA Foundation and the ELCA Federal Credit Union.


About the position

As a member of the Prospect Development team, the Corporate and Foundation Relations Specialist implements strategies designed to grow financial support from corporations and foundations. The incumbent is responsible for researching organizations, managing a pipeline of deliverables, and building relationships with potential grant funders through direct outreach. 


This is a full-time, regular, exempt position. Candidates for this remote position must reside within the fifty United States or the District of Columbia and be authorized to work lawfully in the United States.  


  1. Continually identify, research, and qualify corporate and foundation prospects. Proactively collaborate with Development colleagues to build relationships with corporations and foundations in alignment with ELCA mission and values. Manage  portfolio of assigned corporate/foundation donors.
  2. Track and project-manage pending and ongoing corporate and foundation solicitation opportunities from across the  organization.
  3. Coordinate with marketing colleagues and a grant writer to prepare and submit letters of inquiry and grant proposals. Track and support all reporting requirements to sustain successful partnerships with corporate and foundation donors. Prepare research profiles for key organizations.
  4. Identify stewardship and recognition opportunities for assigned portfolio of foundation and corporate partners through letters, visits, phone calls, and personalized acknowledgements.
  5. Utilize constituent relationship management software to analyze and report on corporate and foundation giving. 
  6. Work with Development Operations teammates to learn about and support the whole team’s efforts and work toward continual improvement of processes and procedures within the team’s purview.


Requirements
  1. Bachelor’s degree in business, non-profit management or related area, or equivalent professional experience. 
  2. 1-2 years’ experience working in a non-profit environment, preferably in corporate and foundation relations. 
  3. Understanding of non-profit fundraising, moves management process, and key issues in corporate and foundation relations.
  4. Ability to think systemically and analytically and execute complex projects with a high degree of professionalism and accuracy. 
  5. Knowledge of constituent relationship management software and appreciation for its potential in donor strategy; fluency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams); aptitude for online research.
  6. Excellent organizational skills; self-starter; ability to maintain confidentiality; manage time and projects and meet deadlines in a remote-work environment. Motivated to collaborate with colleagues to resolve errors and improve systems.
  7. Appreciation for the mission, vision and values of the ELCA. 


Travel 

Periodic travel, up to 10%, by car and/or plane for relationship building, continuing education opportunities or as required by the position.


Physical Effort 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone. Salary 

Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Minimum: $45,219
