Project Harmony is the operating partner of the Learning Community Center of North Omaha – Parent University. Parent University is a 2-generation model, partnering with parents to support family empowerment, opportunity and stability. The Parent University community is open to families who live in the northeast Omaha area and have a child 6 or under and/or expecting a child. We offer a number of courses to support parents, including like skills/wellness, GED/ESL education, leadership and parenting. We offer center-based and home-based services to help families be advocates for their child in school and prepare young children for school success.


Job Purpose

The Food Service Coordinator is responsible for the planning and production of healthy meals for the children whose parents are enrolled in Parent University.


This position will operate out of Parent University on N. 24th Street. Work days are generally M-F, but could require some evening and weekend hours. 25-30 hours per week. Schedule TBD by Program Director.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans nutritious menus for lunch, dinner, and snack according to CACFP guidelines, when needed
  • Prepare food items for all meals
  • Orders or shops for all food items and supplies
  • Checks in all supplies and maintains first in-first out inventory
  • Maintains clean and sanitary work environment
  • Completes paperwork and all trainings required for the CACFP program
  • Consults with staff on nutrition projects, healthy eating habits or children, family style meals and /or CACFP guidelines
Requirements

Education and Training

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Training in quantity food preparation
  • Two or more years of job-related experience or training in institutional or hospital food service department preferred
  • Valid Douglas County Food Handlers card
  • Must be able to pass a background check that meets compliance standards

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to adhere to work schedules
  • Ability to make reasonable estimates
  • Ability to prepare food orders
  • Knowledge and ability to assess product quality
  • Knowledge of sanitation and hygiene
  • Knowledge and ability to perform tasks independently and give necessary help and direction to other workers
  • Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Ability to life, move and reposition objects and materials, frequently exerting force equal to lifting twenty-five (25) to fifty (50) pounds
