Canal Alliance University Prep (UP!) is a college readiness, after-school program designed to support students in their journey to enroll in and graduate from a 4-year university. We provide weekly tutoring, advisory class, academic workshops, daily homework help, counseling, college scholarships, and family support services. 



Position 



The University Prep (UP!) Program Assistant reports to the Youth Education Senior Manager. The Program Assistant supports the middle and high school programs. Work hours are Monday-Thursday, 12:00pm-8:00pm, Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm, and occasional weekend work when needed.  This is an in-person position, requires proof of Covid-19 vaccination, and candidates must live in the State of California.   

The Program Assistant must be a passionate believer in the power of education to improve the lives of immigrant youth and their families. Successful candidates will be tenacious in their desire to support students to ensure that middle and high school participants are prepared for college and beyond.   




Essential Duties and Responsibilities 



  • Lead daily opening activities for middle and high school programs 
  • Provide effective supervision of middle and high school students  
  • Support students with homework as needed 
  • Manage student volunteers 
  • Assist with facilitation of weekly Restorative Justice Council, Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Career Exploration classes 
  • Coordinate in-program celebrations and incentives (birthdays, holidays, etc.) 
  • Manage snack distribution, clean up, and storage  
  • Take daily attendance 
  • Update grades and other Salesforce records 
  • Coordinate student and family field trips 
  • Coordinate Saturday enrichment excursions 
  • Support with yearly new student application process 
  • Support with yearly re-enrollment process for returning families during the summer 



Knowledge, skills and abilities 



  • Knowledge on how to run Zoom meetings and support solving tech issues as they arise 
  • Effective positive discipline and classroom management skills 
  • Understanding of and ability to teach middle school subject matter 
  • Ability to build positive student relationships and use restorative justice practices 
  • Ability to get along with people and establish cooperative working relationships with staff, students, families, volunteers  
  • Strong organizational skills  
  • Good verbal and written communication skills 
  • Ability to function with minimal supervision, follow directions, pay attention to detail, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and manage stressful situations effectively  
  • Ability to go beyond expectations in the assignment, task, or job description without being asked 
Requirements

  

Education and Experience Requirements

 

  • Minimum of 1 year experience working with at-risk youth in an educational environment. Experience working with Latinx, immigrant youth strongly preferred.     
  • Bilingual/bicultural in Spanish and English 
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, Zoom and e-mail software 
  • Detailed knowledge of minimum college entry requirements and college application process (preferred) 
  • Experience working with Salesforce and/or other CRM (preferred) 



Compensation 



Starting at $25 per hour. This is a full-time position with benefits. We offer a competitive salary with a benefits package that includes 3 weeks paid vacation a year, 12 days of sick leave a year and 100% paid employee medical & dental insurance. In addition, there are 16 paid holidays annually, a 403(b) retirement plan, a Flex cafeteria plan, long term disability insurance and an employee assistance program.
