Summary: 

 This position involves pre-treatment of internal wastewater via chemical addition according to recipes, sampling treated and untreated wastewater, operation of filter presses, and discharging treated wastewater according to permit requirements. This position requires a working knowledge of the pre-treatment process and properly recording the appropriate information. Effective communication between the wastewater operator and the shift supervisor is essential. This position may also involve using overhead cranes to move catalyst modules through the regeneration process while maintaining process specifications and recording process data. Other duties include: performing basic calculations related to chemical additions; effectively using the plant visualization software; operating pumps, valves, etc. as needed.  


Essential Duties: 

  • Follow all safety procedures
  • Read and follow treatment process instructions
  • Operate plant visualization software associated with production and wastewater
  • Chemical addition: Use proper safety equipment when handling chemicals; Add correct chemicals according to process instructions; Add correct amounts of chemicals according process instructions; Utilize hoses and/or buckets to add chemicals to tanks
  • Maintain treatment specs; Make sure pH is within specified range; Allow proper mixing time 
  • Record pertinent treatment information regarding: Treatment sheets, pumping logs and tank status
  • Calibrate and maintain pH meter
  • Pump treated wastewater to the filter press
  • Collect and properly label samples; Effluent samples and treated samples (“top samples”)
  • Read analysis results and communicate status to other department areas
  • Thoroughly rinse wastewater treatment tanks
  • Collect and empty wastewater totes as appropriate
  • Troubleshoot/correct minor process deviations
  • Alert supervisor of major process deviations and equipment malfunctions
  • Empty the filter press
  • Transport totes containing chemicals and position dumpster with forklift

Additional Duties:

  • Special projects as assigned


Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred
  • Work experience in an industrial environment
  • Work experience with a wastewater treatment process
  • Chemical handling experience
  • Overhead crane operation experience (preferred)
  • Forklift experience (preferred)
  • Proven knowledge of SDS information
  • Proven knowledge of general plant safety 
  • Safety and environmentally conscious
  • Self-motivated worker
  • Able to work in a team
  • Able to be punctual
  • Able to lift up to 40 lbs
  • Able to read, follow instruction, and record information
  • Able to reach over and into tanks
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to organize information
  • Able to work in all areas associated with regeneration
  • Able to work in a team


Working Conditions:


This job operates in a plant environment. This role routinely requires operation of machinery at a high level of safety. Temperature can be very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter. The noise level is high in some areas and hearing protection is required in those areas. Environment can be very dusty and dirty at times.
