Are you a prototype machinist that is self-motivated and able to accomplish a high level of work without supervision? Do you have the skills to produce machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating 3-5 axis CNC mills, and other manual mills? 

You will work directly with welders on special projects including large vacuum weldments and chambers. Expected to handle all aspects of machining from start to finish, including deburring and detail work. Must maintain quality and safety standards. Experience with SolidCAM and Okuma mills is desirable.

Requirements

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; AA/AS degree in engineering/manufacturing preferred

7+ years of hands-on machine shop experience required

Experienced operating 3-5 axis CNC Mill, 5 axis is preferred

Knowledge of SolidCAM software is preferred but can be learned on the job

Strong knowledge of CAM software.

Solid understanding of G-Code/M-Code

Experienced in machine setup and inventive work-holding solutions

Excellent shop math skills - geometry and trig

Superior knowledge of GD&T and ability to interpret feature control blocks (ASME Y14)

High vacuum (UHV) experience (knowledge of high vacuum surface finish requirements);

Familiarity with pre/post-weld machining is beneficial but can be picked up on the job


Primary Responsibilities Include:

This person is responsible for programming, setting up, and machining short-run prototype parts assigned to them by the shop supervisor.

Complete machine setups on vertical mill centers. Make required adjustments to equipment to maintain compliance with quality standards.

Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.

Produce NC programs from CAM software using SolidCAM software

Responsible for selection of cutting tools, machine speeds, and feed rates according to machine capabilities and work holding.

Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to called specifications within the required tolerances sometimes as close as +/- .0005

Carry out daily/weekly preventative maintenance

Practice good housekeeping (5S)

Communicate all defects and scrap

Notify supervisor of any problems in manufacturing products or safety issues.

Performs other duties as assigned.
