The Nursery Teacher provides supervision of children while a church activity or ministry is taking place. The nursery teacher, being creative and resourceful, utilizes instructional materials which are suitable, and provides a variety of meaningful, engaging learning experiences which are academically sound.
This is a part-time position that will be utilized at an as-needed-basis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Instructs preschool-aged children thru elementary age, in activities that are age appropriate.
- ·Establishes and enforces rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order.
- Organizes and leads activities designed to promote physical, mental, and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, and storytelling.
- Teaches basic skills, such as color, shape, number, and letter recognition.
- Provides a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate, and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play.
- Serves meals and snacks in accordance with nutritional guidelines. Teaches proper eating habits and personal hygiene.
- Prepares materials and classrooms for class activities.
- Enforces all administration policies and rules governing students.
- Plans and supervises class projects, field trips, visits by guests, or other experiential activities and guides students in learning from those activities.
- Attends staff meetings as required.
- Selects, stores, orders, issues, and inventories classroom equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Related experience in similar position is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Caring for children can be physically demanding.
- The Nursery Teacher may be required to lift and/or carry children or equipment (up to 40 lbs.) and may spend time sitting on the floor or child sized furniture.
- Expected to clean and maintain equipment and facility and may move throughout the community with children.
- Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time, walking, bending, stooping/squatting, and reaching.
- May come in contact with children who are ill and/or contagious and must take precautions to ensure the health and safety of all children, parents, staff and themselves.
Organizational/Interpersonal Skills:
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills are required.
Language/Communication Skills:
- The ability to communicate, listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
- The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
- Strong command of both written and spoken English language.
