The DSP provides direct support, instruction and assistance to persons living in the community.Health and safety, community inclusion and daily living skills focus training areas for this position.The DSP provides daily living skills assistance to consumers who live in a residential setting.
Key Result Areas/ Accountabilities
Ensure the safety and welfare of the consumers served.Train in areas of health and safety, basic first aid, and accessing emergency assistance.
Assist and directly support consumers in activities of daily living such as meal preparation, housekeeping, laundry, money management, social skills, toileting, feeding, and hygiene and grooming.
If the consumer is not able to complete housekeeping or meal preparation tasks the DSP is responsible for the completion of these tasks.
Accompanies the consumer into the community, leading to a more inclusive lifestyle.
Follows and participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team in the development, revision, and implementation of instructional programs and individual service plan.
Assist in areas of health maintenance of consumer.Tasks might include supporting consumer in areas of medication administration, , taking vital signs (blood pressure, temperature and pulse) of consumer, assisting consumer with obtaining medications refills, assisting consumer with obtaining medication refills, assisting with transporting to community medical appointments.
Implement behavior management techniques, plans and approaches when needed.
Provide transportation for consumers to and from work and other community activities or appointments when needed.
Be available to work as substitute staff when necessary with other consumers in Community Living.
Mentor other staff on job responsibilities when appropriate.
Remember that you are a visitor in the home of the consumer you are supporting. All appliances such as television, telephone, computer, etc. should be used with the permission and preferences of the consumer in mind.
Provide Active Treatment in the following areas:Self-care, domestic skills, personal responsibilities, budgeting/financial responsibilities, social skills and community utilization, etc.
Provides direct supervision during hours that consumers are at home.This includes, but not limited to, the running of individual program plans, community based training and self-care activities.
Ensure the health, safety and dignity of all consumers at all times.
Serve as a member of the consumer’s support team.
Offer input into the development of the Individual Support Plan.
Community Living Manager regarding consumer needs.
Check e-mail and agency mailbox at the central office at least one time weekly.
Reporting and Record Keeping
Completes and submits all required documentation in a timely manner.
Documents provision of services accurately and timely.
All documentation required while supporting consumer must be completed
prior to the end of the shift worked.
Attends in-services, conferences and other training as assigned.
Use time keeping system to document time worked during shift.Report any errors with time keeping system to supervisor according to procedure.
Promote agency wide Safety and Housekeeping as well as take a proactive approach to preventive maintenance and delivery of quality service.

Home and Vehicle Maintenance – Group Homes:
Performs household duties and minor home maintenance and/or repairs as needed or assigned.This includes but is not limited to painting, yard work and reporting home repair needs to the appropriate agency staff.
Responsible for assisting in maintaining all agency vehicles in a safe and clean operating condition.This includes but is not limited to reporting vehicle maintenance needs to the appropriate agency staff.
Pay Range: $13.00/hr
Minimum Job Qualifications (ALL DEPARTMENTS)
Experience working in a service related field also preferred. Must possess a valid driver’s license, adequate automobile insurance, and meet agency insurability requirements.
Must have good basic mathematical computation and English Language writing knowledge. As required by specific job requirements, must know first aid/health/safety measures, or build an acceptable competence level by post-hire training.Working knowledge of basic computer operations (i.e. typing, checking email) is preferred.

Must be able to bend, stoop, or stand for long periods of time, and assist in lifting various weights, including the transfer and movement of clients,
