 Position Summary
 The Society of interventional Radiology is growing its Clinical and Practice Affairs Division. In this role, the Associate will be responsible for monitoring the impact of proposed regulatory and payer policies impacting interventional practices. In addition, the Associate will coordinate with private payers/  insurers/ employers/health systems on issues related to delivering interventional radiology (IR) services.  This position will provide a career growth opportunity through stakeholder engagement with medical associations, employers, business coalitions, and patient groups, supporting quality care delivery. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the Manager of Coding and Reimbursement.
  • Schedules weekly check-in with chairs, monthly meetings with workgroup, and ad hoc 
  • committee meetings. 
  • Develops proactive agendas and hosts meetings related to SIR's strategic plan. 
  • Takes meeting minutes promptly and completes action items by the deadline. 
  • Delegates work between chairs, workgroup members, and external consultants.
  • Registers all volunteers for external meetings and makes travel arrangements.
  • Attends all meetings, including local and those that require travel.
  • Expected to take notes and submit a summary of the discussions to the physicians, consultants, and supervisor.
  • Maintains invoice tracker for volunteers and submits receipts for all purchases via Concur. 
  • Updates the website monthly or more as needed with coding and reimbursement content that benefits our IR physician membership. 
  • Draft announcements on coding and reimbursement initiatives and submit them to your supervisor for approval for the SIR website and various communication platforms.
  • Drafts the monthly Coding Digest and Health Policy Affairs newsletter that help communicate committee achievements regarding payment policy, coding guidance, and CPT/RUC initiatives and submits to supervisor for approval
  • Identifies carrier/state advocacy interactive website pages that provide resources to our membership on reimbursement to incorporate on the website, digest, and communication platforms. 
  • Track interventional radiology news on upcoming policies that will impact IR services.

 Secondary Functions and Responsibilities


  • Organize coding and health policy webinars and IR coding curriculum courses that support our IR membership.
  • Monitors internal posting platform to identify conversations requiring response and corresponds with the doctors on how to respond.
  • Support the creation of coding & reimbursement tools to teach physicians, practice administrators, coders, and billers how to code appropriately and be reimbursed in their practices.
  • Support the development of relationships with payer representatives and other stakeholders that develop coverage and payment policies that impact the delivery of interventional radiology services.
  • Support the expansion network with other health and medical organizations and coalitions that address private sector and workforce issues.
  • Provide support to our CPT, RUC, and MEDCAC representatives. 
  • Support payment processes, including securing reimbursement and coverage for new and emerging procedures

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of CPT coding, revenue cycle, and payment structures.
  • Understanding of provider fee schedules (MPFS, HOPPS, IPPS)
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and private payer regulations.
  • Lead and support projects 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and solid attention to detail.
  • Able to consistently work with multiple projects and priorities and a keen eye for detail.
  • Able to problem solve with limited supervisor oversite. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on interpreting statistical output appropriate for various audiences.
  • Presents a positive, professional appearance and conveys a professional demeanor.

Education and Experience: 

  • 2+ years of related experience with either a radiology practice or a medical office, health care, or medical association environment.
  • CPC certification is required, RCC after one year, and RCCIR or CIRCC after two years of employment.
  • An understanding of medical coding, including CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, DRGs, etc.


Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: Small, fast-paced open office environment with moderate noise levels. Use of phones and computers for extended periods of time. Utilize office equipment and communication technologies for conference calls and teleconference meetings/webinars. Requires general mobility to move through the facility. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Frequent interaction with internal staff and physician members/board via phone, in person, email, and other mediums. Normal sitting and standing activities for an office environment. Some travel primarily for Annual Meeting.
