Summary: 

Under the supervision and guidance of the Supplemental Instruction (SI) Coordinator, SI Leaders are trained to develop and facilitate meaningful learning activities to support the instruction in targeted Keuka College courses. The SI Leader attends the targeted course and scheduled out-of-class group meetings. Additionally, the SI Leader prepares materials to enhance the understanding of course material, guides discussions, and assists students with integrating course content with effective study strategies. The SI leader will meet regularly with the course instructor and SI Coordinator.  


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Attend all weekly class sessions for the SI course (4 hours), modeling positive classroom behaviors and being attentive to course content for further follow-up. Assist in classroom activities as requested by instructor.  
  • Prepare materials, plan, and conduct one, one-hour weekly SI sessions (2-4 hours) 
  • Maintain weekly contact with SI Coordinator and course instructor (1-2 hours) 
  • Responsible for submitting attendance sheets and plans for weekly sessions and timesheets of work performed promptly. 
  • Be a model student who understands the importance and application of effective study skills and strategies. 
  • Apply strategies related to learning skills for students of diverse academic and socioeconomic backgrounds. 
  • Responsible for ensuring that assigned tasks are completed in compliance with various institutional and regulatory requirements. 
  • Maintain a professional and courteous attitude at all times towards co-workers, internal and external customers, representing Keuka College, its programs, policies, and procedures in a positive and professional manner. Maintain effective working relationships to ensure institution-wide teamwork. 
  • Attend provided/necessary trainings and other meetings to support effectiveness within the position as required. 
  • Consistently demonstrate high standards of integrity by supporting the Keuka College mission, vision, and values and adhering to institutional policies including federal/state regulations. 
  • Maintain high regard for student privacy in accordance with the FERPA privacy policies and procedures. 
  • Regular and reliable attendance is expected and required. 
  • Regularly check methods of communication established by SI Coordinator 
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Minimum junior classification required, senior classification preferred, and attending Keuka College 
  2. Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and be in good academic standing. 
  3. Must have earned an A in the course or a course within the content area desired to serve as a Supplemental Instruction Leader. 
  4. Experience tutoring or assisting students in effectively studying for historically difficult courses and maximizing potential for academic success. 
  5. Experience reviewing notes, discussing readings, developing organizational tools, and preparing for examinations with reasoning and study skills. 
  6. Be a model student who understands the importance and application of effective study skills and strategies. 
  7. Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing. 
  8. Understand and behave with a high level of integrity and complete confidentiality at all times.   
  9. Ability to be sensitive to and respond to needs/concerns of students, faculty, College staff, and the public. 
  10. Ability to work under pressure with a high tolerance for interruptions and the ability to work with diverse groups of people. 


Physical Requirements:

  • Evening and weekend hours required.  
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. 
Salary Description
15.50/hr.
