Description

  

TU is hiring a motivated and highly capable person to manage and implement TU’s Beaver and BDA restoration efforts in the Upper Columbia Region with primary geographies in Chelan and Douglas Counties. A successful candidate will conduct work professionally and effectively, be flexible and innovative with program activities, serve as a public representative for TU, and maintain excellent working relationships with staff and project partners. The primary duty station will be the TU field office in Wenatchee, WA. Seasonal field activities are based at the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery in Leavenworth, WA. 


  DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Secure and manage grants and permits to support program activities.
  • Prepare grant and permit reports summarizing activities, deliverables, and regulatory compliance.
  • Hire and manage staff and interns that help to carry out field activities.
  • Work with agency biologists, partners, TU staff and landowners to conceptualize, develop, and implement projects including beaver relocation, beaver dam analog, and other low-tech restoration projects.
  • Develop scopes of work for contracting and execution of competitive bid processes and supervise subcontractors (engineers, construction contractor, etc.). 
  • Conduct public outreach and landowner assistance related to program activities, beaver ecology, and nuisance management strategies.
  • Collect pre-and post-restoration data to inform project site select and evaluate effectiveness. 
  • This position will work collaboratively with US Fish and Wildlife Service, US Forest Service and other entities to plan and implement program activities.

Requirements

  

  • College degree in fisheries, wildlife, water resources, natural resources and 3-5 years experience conducting restoration activities including Low-Tech Process-based Restoration
  • Experience with data collection/analysis and technical writing
  • Strong interpersonal skills for communicating with resource professionals, general public and landowners required
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and ESRI ArcGIS required.
  • Ability to think quickly and creatively in response to unanticipated challenges.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required.
  • Must be comfortable working long hours in remote settings and under difficult conditions.
  • Must be able to use GPS and mapping tools to navigate and develop project sites
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license; and obtain Washington State driver’s license within first year of employment.
  • Must complete Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife beaver relocation certification training within first year of employment.
  • Overnight travel will be infrequent but may be required for training or job task purposes.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience managing natural resource projects/programs strongly preferred
  • Experience writing grants and managing budgets
  • Passion for outdoor recreation
  • Knowledge of landscapes, communities, and ways of life in North Central Washington
