Atlanta Classical Academy seeks a full-time Physical Education Teacher and Coach. Physical education teachers are expected to demonstrate high moral character and subject matter mastery. Teachers are expected to work collaboratively to create a working and learning environment for all students that is safe, secure, and respectful.

This position will work as part of a team of four (4) coaches to support the physical, cognitive, social and emotional growth of our Lower School students. As a teacher and coach you will work with children in grades K-12, support other key school needs throughout the day, coach two (2) sports in the Middle or Upper School, and other tasks as assigned by the Director of Athletics

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Creates physical education curriculum with an emphasis on effort and attitude
  • Plans physical education program to promote development of student's physical attributes and social skills
  • Coordinates individual and team sports for students (grade 7+)
  • Organizes, leads, instructs, and referees indoor and outdoor games, such as volleyball, baseball, and basketball
  • Coordinates individuals or groups in beginning or advanced calisthenics, gymnastics, or corrective exercises, determining type and level of difficulty of exercises, corrections needed and prescribed movements, applying knowledge of sports, physiology, and corrective techniques
  • May select, store, order, issue, and inventory equipment, materials, and supplies used in physical education program.
  • Assists in the evaluation of the wellness policy implementation
  • Assists with supervision of students in playground
  • Uses positive, effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Maintains confidentiality concerning education, health and personal information about students
  • Follows school policies and procedures for protecting health, safety and well-being of children and youth
  • Demonstrates dependability, integrity, and respect for individual differences.

  • Fall - Cheerleading, Cross Country, Volleyball
  • Winter - Basketball, Cheerleading, Swimming & Diving
  • Spring - Baseball, Golf, Soccer, Track & Field
  • All - Strength and Conditioning (additional requirements may apply)

Qualified candidates will meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in physical education or related field
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting
  • Ability to lift a minimum of fifty pounds unassisted required
  • Certification or ability to become certified in First Aid, CPR, and Lifeguard
  • Experience coaching multiple sports or working as a Certified Strength and Conditioning
    Coach preferred

About Atlanta Classical Academy:

Atlanta Classical Academy is an open-enrollment, public charter school open to students who reside within the Atlanta Public Schools district. The school opened in 2014 with grades K – 8, and has added a grade each year as students have advanced. It is now a K – 12 academy.
