Job Description

The Head Athletic Trainer, Beach National Teams (BNT) reports to the Director, Sports Medicine and Performance.  This position is the primary health care service provider for the Beach National Teams providing evaluation services, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries/illness concerning Beach National Team athletes. The Head Athletic Trainer is a regular full-time position that works closely with other performance team professionals to enhance athlete health and performance. Cross departmental support is a general expectation of all USAV employees. Additional hours may be required to include nights, weekends and holidays. This position is in Torrance, CA. 



Summary of Duties and Responsibilities include but are not necessarily limited to:

  •  Leads and organize comprehensive health and treatment plans for athlete care. 
  •  Performs general health and orthopedic evaluations, treatments, and rehabilitation services for Beach National Team athletes.  
  • Collaborates with USAV staff, USOPC staff and external partners on all areas of performance including strength and conditioning, nutrition, recovery, mental training, injury prevention, etc. 
  • Creates long term programming to enhance overall health and performance for USAV Beach National Teams. 
  • Monitors the status of care of BNT athletes.  
  • Travels with the Beach National Teams to specified international competitions.  
  •  Implements yearly medical screens to ensure ongoing supervision of the athlete’s health. 
  • Communicates with appropriate USAV staff and contractors regarding the medical status of athletes, while maintaining appropriate compliance with medical privacy laws. 
  • Understands the various Anti-Doping programs and aids in athlete education. 
  • Maintains a USAV BNT Sports Medicine Center that complies with health and safety standards.
  • Ensures adequate quantity and quality of USAV BNT’s medical supplies.
  •  Maintains updated injury and illness documentation. 
  •  Assists with making referrals to outside medical providers. 
  • Works with USAV staff to schedule and monitor medical providers assigned to specified BNT events. 
  • Prepares and disseminates information collaboratively with sports performance staff related to sports med and athlete care.  
  •  Prepares and collaborates during sports performance meetings. 
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training from a Board Certification approved program National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC). 
  • Minimum five (5) years of sports medicine experience following certification. 
  • Able to effectively collaborate with medical staff to lead and develop athlete care programs.  
  • Current Health Care Provider CPR certification. 
  • No record of founded malpractice claims, professional boundary violation or State Board sanctions. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and working knowledge of computer programs. 
  •  Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations including athletes, coaches, administrative staff, and other medical personnel in a high stress environment.
  • Master’s degree in sports medicine field is preferred.
  • Certification is soft tissue modalities (ART, MNT, Massage, etc.) is a plus. 
  •  Experience treating volleyball athletes is preferred. 
  • Must be able to successfully pass a USAV background screening (prior to hire date).
  •  Must successfully complete SafeSport training within two weeks of hire date and remain current.

Base Salary:  $60,000 - $66,500
