Public Relations Specialist

The Public Relations Specialist is a key member of ASI’s Marketing team, focusing on media relations, promotional partnerships, incentives, and storytelling. The Public Relations Specialist is ASI’s primary liaison with journalists, leads the organization’s partnership marketing initiatives, and is charged with developing story-driven marketing content for publication across various channels. The Public Relations Specialist is responsible for collaboratively planning and producing publicity plans that drive new audience engagement, and that deepen engagement with established audiences, locally and nationally.

  • Create and execute publicity plans that support both annual and seasonal audience engagement strategies.
  • Create and edit press releases, media alerts, and press kit materials.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national journalists on behalf of ASI.
  • Identify, develop, and pitch stories and content ideas to print, online, radio and TV media.
  • Arrange and coordinate media interviews, talking points, press visits, exhibition tours and previews, appointments, press conferences, and other activities.
  • Fulfill all media content requests, including requests for photos and video, copy, and others, and connect with internal content experts to ensure information is accurate.
  • Monitor press activity daily to create monthly and annual ROI reports.
  • Maintain an understanding of the media landscape, current media trends, and new industry developments, and proactively share this information with ASI staff to inform program and exhibition development, retail positioning, and restaurant decision making.
  • Be primary point of contact for any contract publicist engaged by ASI. Coordinate pitches, review releases, provide content as needed, and other activities as required.
  • Collaborate with other Engagement team members to maintain the media area of ASI’s website, including publishing press releases, listing media mentions, and improving the site as a resource for journalists.
  • Maintain general talking points for ASI to guide organization-wide communications.

  • Collaborate interdepartmentally to define a framework for a partnerships & promotions program designed to expand audiences for ASI’s educational programs, retail store, FIKA Café, and daily museum admissions. Collaborate on and communicate the strategic priorities for audience development.
  • Collaborate with staff to identify target audiences and partners for educational programs, exhibitions, retail store and FIKA Café. Coordinate strategic reach out to these audiences and provide communications tools for partner organizations to help promote. Define the “reason to return” and method for inviting new participants back to ASI. 
  • Develop KPIs to measure the impact of all partnership activities.
  • Collaborate cross-departmentally to identify potential promotional partners, solicit partnership invitations, ensure partnership requirements are fulfilled, and steward each relationship to ensure long-term impact.
  • Create monthly and annual ROI reports and proactively share this information with staff to inform future museum activities.

As the Public Relations Specialist focusing on Content Development & Editing, you will get to...

  • Develop error-free written content for publication in social media platforms, ASI’s Posten Magazine, Program Catalog, blog, and other channels. 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders in the Engagement Team and cross-departmentally to identify story ideas, source content, identify the most appropriate medium for storytelling, secure interviews with story subjects, and other activities. 
  • Partner with ASI’s Engagement Coordinator to identify and maintain a cadence for developing and publishing blog content that resonates with audiences and drives the ASI’s content marketing goals.
  • Collaborate with other Engagement staff on videos, podcasts, and other audio or visual content. for use on social media, on-site, or other applications, from concept through deployment.
  • Assist in proofing and editing ASI’s Posten Magazine, Catalog, and other materials as requested.



This job might be for you if you have..

  • A Bachelors’ Degree in marketing, communications, public relations or related field
  • 4+ years of experience in public relations, communications, or marketing, with specific experience liaising with journalists, preferably in the arts & culture sector
  • A track record of successful media placements and ability to convey why each pitch was successful
  • Strong understanding of the media cadence – when to pitch stories, when to follow up
  • An expert knowledge of what makes a good story, what matters to media, what may grab attention, and how to secure coverage in print, digital, radio, and TV media.
  • Strong knowledge of current affairs in the museum sector
  • Impeccable interpersonal and social skills
  • Efficient multitasking and time management abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional public speaking abilities
  • Professional appearance and demeanor


  • Background in the arts or experience with a cultural institution
  • Interest in Nordic culture and language desirable
  • Agency experience suggested, but not required

Salary Description
$55,000 to $60,000/annual
