Description

Position summary:

The instructor’s primary responsibility is to conduct organized, positive classes along the guidelines of the Marion & Polk County YMCA’s Aquatic Department. To model, practice and carry out the Y core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

Requirements

Physical/mental Requirements: 

  • Must be physically capable of observing and listening for stressful situations at all times. 
  • Must be physically capable of lifting 40 pounds. 
  • Must be able to quickly reach a person and/or situation to prevent harm. 


Essential Functions:

  1. Review and understand class level and logical teaching progression. 
  2. Greet classes and parents prior to each lesson and introduce yourself and develop member relations. 
  3. Prepare session outline before third class and prepare daily lesson plans. 
  4. Be ready for class at least 15 minutes ahead of time. 
  5. Assist in maintaining attendance records, showering, and securing equipment as assigned. 
  6. Maintain proper care of equipment and facility. 
  7. Be available for parent questions and comments. If rushed, arrange a convenient time for both to meet. 
  8. Be consistent with YMCA Aquatic policy on discipline, class organization and class standards. 
  9. Prepare and distribute progress reports, class evaluations and certificates of participation to students on all the dates designated by the session schedule. 
  10. Attend all scheduled general staff meetings and trainings for your programs. 
  11. Keep accurate time cards. 
  12. Assist in the cultivation and training of volunteers. 
  13. Keep certifications current and continue education. 
  14. Maintain appropriate level of personal fitness and high level of competency in rescue techniques.

All candidates must have reliable transportation. Job offers are contingent upon completion of a rigorous criminal history background check.
