Description

Primary Function:

Performs primary and backup Polysomnography (PSG) technician coverage for NCPA Sleep Center 


Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Registered PSG Technologist at NCPA Sleep Center location
  2. Follow departmental and AASM procedural protocols for PSG, such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of      Wakefulness Test (MWT), parasomnia studies, PAP, oxygen titration etc. to  ensure collection of appropriate data.
  3. Follow  “lights out” procedures to establish and document baseline values (such as body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory and heart rates, etc.)
  4. Perform Polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality  to ensure signals are artifact-free and make adjustments, if necessary.
  5. Document routine observations including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and significant events in order to facilitate scoring and  interpretation of polysomnographic results.
  6. Implement appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.)
  7. Follow  “lights on” procedures to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process (repeats the physiological and instrument  calibrations and instructs the patient on completing questionnaires, etc.)
  8. Demonstrate  the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of neonatal, pediatric,   adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

  

Service Management and Professional Duties

  1. Comply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding      safety and infection control issues.
  2. Maintain  current CPR/AED or BCLS certification.
  3. Complies with the NCPA and BRPT. [i] Standards of Conduct for PSG technology.
  4. Comply with NCPA and departmental procedures for HIPPA, OHSA compliance 

Other Related Duties 

  1. Maintains machine and laboratory cleanliness and reports machine malfunctions to the sleep center coordinator.
  2. Reviews current practice management system (Centricity) daily for patient schedules 
  3. Checks e-mails regularly for memos and  instructions for administrative supervision 
  4. Performs other duties as directed. 


Requirements

  

Education Requirements

  1. Maintains professional and technical expertise  through in-service and professional meetings, educational programs, and      review of current literature. 
  2. Maintains Registration by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) and CPR certification
  3. Performs other continuing education duties as   required.  

Supervision Received:

Lead PSG Technologist and Clinical Director 


Qualifications:

  1. Two years of college level study or equivalent training and experience is necessary. 
  2. Proficiency in PSG testing is necessary. 
  3. Registration by BRPT and license in the state of  Maryland is required. 
  4. Experience in clinical sleep center setting is preferred. 
  5. Current CPR/AED or BCLS certification is  necessary.
