ABOUT THE IT HELP DESK TECHNICIAN JOB

IT HELP DESK TECHNICIAN SUMMARY

The IT Help Desk Technician is responsible for providing technical assistance and support to ITC employees with computer systems, hardware, or software issues. They will respond to queries, run diagnostic programs, isolate problems, and determine and implement solutions.


THE CORE DUTIES OF THE IT HELP DESK TECHNICIAN

  • Answer user inquiries regarding computer software or hardware operation to resolve problems.  
  • Oversee the daily performance of computer systems.  
  • Read technical manuals, confer with users, or conduct computer diagnostics to investigate and resolve problems or to provide technical assistance and support.  
  • Set up equipment for employee use, performing or ensuring proper installation of cables, operating systems, or appropriate software.  
  • Assist in development of step-by-step training materials and procedures for the proper use of hardware or software.  
  • Refer major hardware or software problems or defective products to vendors for service.  
  • Maintain records of daily communication transactions, problems and remedial actions taken, or installation activities.  
  • Assist with maintaining network documentation.
  • Install and perform minor repairs to hardware, software, or peripheral equipment, following design or installation specifications.  
  • Prepare evaluations of software or hardware and recommend improvements or upgrades.  
  • Confer with staff, users, and management to help establish requirements for new systems or modifications.  
  • Inspect equipment to prepare for delivery to users.  
  • Setup and troubleshoot company used smart phones and tablets.
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements


JOB DESIRABLES AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate’s degree in computer science or equivalent, or minimum of 2 years of related experience.
  • Experience troubleshooting ERP software a plus, but not required.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems with Windows 10, Mac OS, Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Creative Cloud, Engineering design software, and other similar business applications.
  • Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.  
  • Communicating effectively as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
