The hardware engineering team is growing quickly and has an immediate need for an Engineering Technician to help support the transition manufacturing of our new Lidar-based transmission line monitoring sensor technology. They will be an integral member of LineVision’s Engineering team and will be involved in all aspects of our products, to ensure the highest quality in our new products, and improving quality in our existing products.


This position will report to the Hardware Engineering Manager and work closely with the Hardware Engineering, R+D, Quality/Manufacturing and Operations teams.


What will you do?

You will work within the hardware engineering team to support day-to-day operations in the lab, identify and resolve issues with electromechanical assemblies, and assist with engineering validation efforts for next generation sensor systems.

  • Within a Month:
    • Learn how our products work, and about transmission line monitoring technologies in general.
    • Look under the cover and get familiar with our hardware and processes.
    • Build and test prototype electrical and mechanical assemblies for use at LineVision.
    • Build test and programming fixtures for use in-house and at Contract Manufacturer Locations.
    • Perform Hardware Validation Testing and QA Testing of our latest sensor technologies, including support CE and FCC testing.
  • Within Three Months:
    • Propose and implement design improvements
    • Perform experiments on our devices to verify performance.
    • Test and validate new firmware, boards and/or assemblies. 
    • Troubleshoot issues using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, temperature chambers.
    • Troubleshoot networking issues related to IOT devices by running SQL queries and python scripts.
    • Assist with bringing up a new prototyping/lab space in Charlestown, MA.
  • Within a Year and Beyond, You'll
    • Be the go to person liaison between Operations and Engineering.
    • Manage electronics laboratory operations, equipment, budget, and identify future needs.
    • Improve our quality control processes.
    • Assist with the continuous improvement/management of our new lab space.
    • There will be tremendous opportunities to grow and move within the company as well.

Desired skills to succeed in this role are…

  • Associates Degree in technical field, Military, or Vocational School.
  • Diligent tracking and management of Bill of Materials, prototype and production units, change orders
  • Experience using hand tools and basic shop tools (bandsaw, drill press, etc.)
  • Ability to fabricate reliable electro-mechanical prototypes
  • Experience with circuit board troubleshooting, rework skills including soldering, surface mount assembly, using oscilloscopes, DMM, function generators, logic analyzers, data loggers, and other test equipment.
  • Circuit board design tools such as Eagle, Altium Designer, Gerber Viewers 
  • Mechanical CAD tools such as Solidworks or AutoCAD
  • Mechanical fabrication skills such as 3D printing, metal fabrication.
  • Experience successfully taking new products through third party certification testing (CE and FCC)
  • Comfortable with computers and learning new software tools. Experience using a command line interface is a plus.
