Job Title: Individual Giving Manager 

Reports to: Assistant Development Director 

Classification: Exempt

Position Summary

The Individual Giving Manager cultivates develops, and manages relationships with existing donors and new prospects, focusing on securing gifts of $1,000 or more, recurring donations, and planned gifts from individuals all resulting in a larger donor base, improved retention, and significantly increased revenue to support Houston Habitat’s work.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Manage donor relationships and with individuals that support Houston Habitat
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donor prospects and existing donors with the capacity to contribute $1,000 or more, through cold calls and outreach to solicit gifts 
  • Draft correspondence and informational materials needed to secure gifts
  • Assist in implementing programs needed to sustain major gift support
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of donor communications, including proper entry of such data/records into Houston Habitat's donor database
  • Report on funds raised, activities, and programs as requested 
  • In consultation with the Assistant Development Director, annually establish personal goals, objectives, and strategies for fundraising, and regularly assess progress toward goals
  • Work collaboratively with the Development team, other Houston Habitat staff, and volunteers
  • Participate in volunteer engagement on the construction site or in the warehouse as needed
  • Effectively communicate the Houston Habitat story, mission, and needs, orally and in writing and/or represent Houston Habitat to donors and prospects at community and business events and on the Houston Habitat build site; and
  • Complete other duties and activities as assigned

Requirements

Education, Experience, Skills, and Physical Requirements


  • 2 - 3 years of fundraising, nonprofit or equivalent experience
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Established fundraising success and achievement of institutional goals
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal including the ability to create and/or deliver compelling donor correspondence, proposals, presentations, reports, and related materials
  • Certification in fund development and/or nonprofit management and active involvement in the greater Houston philanthropic community preferred
  • The ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office suite and donor management software
  • The ability to work independently and as a team
  • The ability to adapt quickly to changing environments
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills and exemplary attention to detail
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
  • The ability to perform essential functions of the job; reasonable accommodation available
  • The ability to perform in an office setting and outdoors (heat, humidity, rain, and cold) 
  • Some evening and weekend work may be required
