Job Summary

The Cost Accounting Manager oversees all aspects of the global cost accounting function, for this hybrid manufacturing and distributed products business. This is a key business decision support resource for Global Safeguard and will collaborate extensively with cross-functional teams in supply chain, manufacturing operations, sales, customer support and finance leadership to establish accurate product costs and inventory valuation. Responsibilities will include gathering data, providing analysis, preparing reports, problem solving and making recommendations. This will be accomplished while assuring compliance with internal procedures and robust internal controls over the financial integrity of reporting. This position is responsible for practicing Quality System Manual procedures and complying with its requirements.

Essential Job Functions:

Cost Accounting

  •  Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures related to revenue and cost accounting, including month-end, quarter-end, and year-end cutoffs.
  •  Maintaining cost accounting system, analyzing actual manufacturing costs, as well as changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods or services provided,
  •  Design and implement an excess and obsolete inventory accounting policy and procedure. Reconciling inventory reserves and establishing metrics to expose trends and mitigate any potential inventory risks and provide management with corrective action plans.
  •  Manage month-end gross margin financial close process to ensure integrity of the data, including inter-company eliminations, inventory reconciliation, margin analysis
  •  Conducts physical inventories and collaborates with Operations in monitoring cycle count program
  •  Represent cost accounting as it relates to all projects, ie ERP migration, internal and external audit requests, tax strategy planning, transfer pricing, etc.
  •  Develops subject matter expertise in ERP system (Microsoft Dynamics 365) with regards to manufacturing costing and inventory valuation processes
  •  Provide data and input for internal/external audit and tax requests outputs. Ensure proper interpretation, implementation and maintenance in-regards to auditors reviewing issues relative to COGM/COGS.

Cost Analysis

  •  Provide financial data, reports and recommendations to management on product costing, rate analysis, standard margin, gross margin, variance analysis, cost-volume-mix analysis, inventory and other management accounting issues.
  •  Assist in the development and implementation of strategic and operational directives for cost analysis activities.
  •  Develop budgets and forecasts and participates in the annual budget preparation process.
  •  Collaborates with FP&A to gather data and conduct analysis for evaluation of manufacturing capital investments (ROI).

Operations Accounting

  •  Manage the development, preparation, analysis, and distribution of monthly financial information to Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Corporate Management.
  •  Provide data and feedback in the application and utilization of Dynamics 365 manufacturing systems.
  •  Design procedures to ensure manufacturing accounting systems are feeding external accounting properly.
  •  Assist in the development of the annual budget for manufacturing, including cost center build up and allocations.
  •  Ensure manufacturing variances and write-offs to P&L are properly documented, recorded and communicated per company procedures.

Operations Accounting

Requirements

Experience and Skills

  •  Excellent analytical skills with attention to details
  •  In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), IFRS a plus.
  •  Ability to adapt to conflicting deadlines and priorities established by company demands; and establish goals and objectives for this position and the function.
  •  Ability to exercise sound judgment, provide leadership, and take initiative under minimal supervision.
  •  Effective communication skills, verbal and written, in order to research, prepare and present information to Management, as well as effective communication skills with co-workers, staff and customers.
  •  Advanced level skills in Excel and Word. Database knowledge preferred.
  •  Enterprise software experience required. Dynamics 365 experience a plus.
