Position Summary
The Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the activities of subcontractors on-site, with a focus on ensuring that all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards of quality. This involves managing day-to-day operations and fostering effective communication among various teams to address any challenges that may arise. The superintendent plays a crucial role in developing and enforcing safety protocols, ensuring compliance with all regulations, and minimizing risks on the job site. Additionally, they are tasked with monitoring project timelines and budgets, making necessary adjustments to keep the project on schedule and within financial constraints. The Superintendent aims to deliver successful project outcomes that meet or exceed client expectations by maintaining a proactive approach.
Essential Responsibilities
- Uphold safety on-site
- Participate in the Post Award Kick-off, Partnering, Preconstruction, Design Development, Coordination, and Mutual Understanding Meetings
- Supervise subcontractors to ensure construction complies with drawings and specifications
- Manage and update the schedule provided by the Project Manager and assist the Project Manager in developing a site-specific construction schedule in coordination with subcontractors
- Monitor work performance and productivity of subcontractors to ensure project specifications, procedures, quality, and safety requirements are maintained
- Manage onsite daily/weekly coordination meetings with subcontractors and provide critical updates to essential government personnel as needed
- Complete daily documentation requirements, including reports and photos
- Advise Project Management of potential problems as they arise; assist in circumventing/resolving such issues as required
- Coordinate with the QCM to ensure that the 3 phases of control are planned to occur according to the schedule
- Coordinate with onsite government/management personnel
- The superintendent will manage the coordination of on-site CMS Team Members, with the Project Manager's direction as needed
- Lead site personnel and subcontractors assertively to drive effective results
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills
- Ability to effectively develop a cohesive team working together to achieve project goals
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
- Knowledge of various construction disciplines, safety regulations, scheduling, cost control, and construction print reading
- Must demonstrate and provide comprehensive, accurate, and timely documentation.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365
- Conflict resolution skills
Education and Experience
- An associate’s degree in construction management/engineering/science, and 3 years of related superintendent/foreman/crew leader experience or
- A High School diploma and a minimum of 7 years of related superintendent/foreman/crew leader experience.
Reporting Structure
- Reports to the Project Manager and Field Operations Manager
- This position does not have direct reports.
Travel
- %80 – 100% Travel Required
- Travel frequency is subject to change based on project volume and scope.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, be insurable on company insurance, and be able to travel as required
- Must be able to pass a background check to access military institutions
Physical Requirements
Regularly work in and around moving heavy machinery and fixed equipment in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat, humidity, and cold. The noise level may be loud at times due to machinery and equipment. Must be able to move objects weighing up to 40 lbs. using abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support repetitively for 10 to 20 minute intervals without fatigue. Constant movement and use of limbs for the duration of shift. This position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
