Safety Management Group is seeking a Safety Advisor in Columbus, Ohio. 

The Columbus Safety Advisor is responsible for acting as the primary service provider for several SMG clients located in greater Columbus and surrounding areas. This position is remote based but must be prepared to travel daily to support their list of clients. The Safety Advisor will work closely with and report directly to a Columbus based SMG director.

Overview of Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs daily/weekly/monthly safety observations on various client sites to identify both industry best practices and opportunities for improvement to develop mitigation techniques.
  • Develops, presents, and maintains training on various EHS topics to clients and internally to SMG associates – maintain training content database with current revisions.
  • Leads meetings and conference calls with clients to effectively communicate all EHS topics.
  • Monitors team availability; schedules audits and incident investigations upon request.
  • Data support and administrator for leading indicator software systems.
  • Ensures client-related files are stored in the appropriate place.
  • Assists with the completion of the Staffing Project Detail form.
  • Assists with onboarding of new hires – calendaring, document saving guidelines, training material requests, etc.
  • Develops draft presentations.
  • Proofreads documents, as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested by clients.

This position requires strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to create, develop, revise and analyze corporate EHS programs. All candidates must have a strong understanding of construction and general industry federal, state, and local regulations and the ability to apply industry best practices. Key qualifications include:

  • Bachelor of Science in Environmental, Health, and Safety or Industrial Hygiene
  • A minimum of 3 years of demonstrable experience in managing or supporting EHS programs, primarily in construction settings
  • Highly proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well as other key software
  • Ability to lead client initiatives, meetings, and other efforts to drive improvements for the team and client EHS Programs
  • GSP, ASP, or CHST required and the ability/desire to obtain other industry-leading certifications and achievements 
  • Creativity and motivation to assist our growth and operations in the greater Columbus area
  • Ability to work overtime based on client workload

  • Remaining in a stationary position for a prolonged period
  • Working in extreme weather (Hot and Cold Environments)
  • Being exposed to loud noises
  • Wearing personal protective gear correctly
