Textiles Product Engineer

We are seeking a creative problem solver with experience in textiles, material testing, and the development of value propositions around new materials, to help bring exciting new products to the marketplace across a wide set of markets and applications. This role will support fabric development for global apparel brands by testing and fully defining the unique properties given to fabrics by NFW’s patented technology. You will aid in all aspects of fabric product development as it pertains to material characterization and testing. Additionally, you will provide expert assistance to business leadership, product development, production, and quality assurance teams. 

As a member of a fast-paced multi-disciplinary team, you use your creativity and diverse range of engineering experience to explore solutions to various engineering problems. As a Textiles/materials engineer, you participate in the design, analysis, and prototyping of new concepts in the textiles field. You work in a manufacturing and product-oriented development environment and collaborate with vendors and outside sources to see products through commercialization.

What you would do / Key Responsibilities include:

  • Support customer-driven new product development projects and launch activities.
  • Benchmark existing consumer products against NFW developed materials.
  • Perform statistical data analysis and make development direction recommendations.
  • Set up standardized tests, execute and analyze test data.
  • Conceptualize, develop, set up, and execute new tests to explore specific product value propositions.
  • Communicate directly with customers. 
  • Verify customer desired claims on products through testing and empirical evidence.
  • Manage relationships with, and coordinate testing at 3rd party testing labs. 
  • Handoff newly developed tests and procedures to the quality assurance team.
  • Coordinate with quality assurance on the testing of standard tests. 
  • Work through the Product Development team and Fabric R&D team to ensure that customer requirements are met. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Textiles Technology, Material Science, Fiber Science, or related technical or engineering field; Master’s degree a plus
  • 3 years of fabric development experience
  • 3 years of materials/ textile experience preferred
  • Experience with textiles, including yarn and fabric, and manufacturing assembling processes
  • Experience setting up and running ASTM, ISO, and/or AATCC testing standards
  • Experience setting up and running circular and flat bed knitting machines required
  • A hands-on mentality to standardized testing that is about more than reporting a number but fully understanding the “what” of the experiment.
  • Strong grasp of the scientific method
  • Strong knowledge of textile engineering concepts
  • Ability to generate scientific hypothesis from the test data and communicate to the team
  • Statistical analysis experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to influence others and drive results across teams and individuals that do not directly report to the position
  • A start-up mentality as well as the ability to wear multiple hats
  • Fluency in office productivity tools (Microsoft Office, Google suite)
