JOB SUMMARY

 The Camp Counselor is vital to ensuring that each camp participant can participate in all of the indoor and outdoor activities to the best of their ability during the camp program. The Camp Counselor is an active participant in events, alongside the individuals attending the camp. The Camp Counselor must make safety a priority while encouraging the campers to have fun.  The Camp Counselor also manages any potential behavior issues and redirects participants as necessary during activities. The Camp Counselor assists in providing daily communication to the participant’s caregiver so they are aware of the participant’s progress and any concerns that may arise. 


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  •  Assume responsibility for camper safety and report all incidences to the nurse. Fill out any essential forms related to the incident and notify the Camp Director and family.
  •  Assist staff with all camp activities, including set up and clean up as needed.
  •  Assist children in completing activities of daily living (ADLs) such as feeding and dressing tasks.
  •  Serve as a positive role model during all camp activities, as well as transitional times throughout the day.
  •  Guide group of campers to successfully engage in all aspects of camp activities as per the daily schedule.
  •  Responsible for attendance each morning and direct supervision of children at all times.
  •  Communicate all necessary information to peers, supervisors, volunteers, families, and campers in a positive manner.
  •  Assume the lead with any ADL or emergency situations and direct volunteers as needed.
  •  Adhere to all camp and facility policies and procedures.
Requirements

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Completion of New Staff Orientation Trainings 
  • Mandated Reporting and Child Abuse Training 
  • Current State Child Abuse History Clearance
  • Current State Police Record Check
  • Current Federal Criminal History Background Check (FBI Fingerprinting)
  • Compliance with Drug Testing & Satisfactory Drug Testing Results
  • First Aid & CPR/AED Certification
  • Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines and client’s right to privacy and protection 
  • Knowledge of Leg Up Farm Therapy Program policies and procedures
  • Excellent skills in verbal and written communication 
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.
  • Highly detail-oriented, able to work independently, multi-task, and provide self-direction regarding implementation of summer camp program. 
  • Ability to remain calm and perform duties in stressful situations, as well as directing volunteers to assist as needed. 
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding and problem solve. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and written 
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of protected health information (PHI) and proprietary business practices

Preferred;

  • One to two years of experience working with children in a healthcare or related field
  • Bilingual preferred

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time as camp activities take place both indoors and outdoors. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but at times, could be high. There is a potential exposure to dander of animals, such as horses, donkeys, and cats. This position is subject to a number of inherent risks associated with pediatric services which is not limited to bites, kicks, scratches, and hits.

$12.00/hr
