Operations Technician - Part Time - Canada

Summary of Position 

RTI employs a staff of Operations Management personnel that are highly experienced in operating    petroleum refining and/or chemicals processes and equipment. On a daily    basis, our Operations Managers work with refinery operations personnel and turnaround    professionals to plan and carry out chemical cleaning strategies. The Operations Technician will direct the set-up and support the execution objectives of    the Operations Managers on RTI projects. 

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Directs refinery personnel and contractors on the staging of RTI chemistry. 

2. Safely sets up RTI equipment (places and connects RTI-owned pumps and hoses). 

3. Manages refinery contractors (mechanical fitters) as they connect RTI equipment to the injection points and plant utilities. 

4. Operate and supervises others operating RTI-owned pumps during the chemical injection. 

5. Leads clean-up efforts after the project and de-mobilizes equipment, per specified procedures. 

6. Assists Operations Managers as requested.

7. Perform periodic, scheduled, and as needed maintenance on RTI Injection Pumps and Equipment.

8. Maintain a consistent level of competency on RTI Injection Pump Operation and Maintenance.

Supervisory Responsibilities 

None but may act in a Lead role as assigned.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Understanding of refinery piping circuits and PFD drawings of the application (strong mechanical aptitude). 

· Ability to clearly and confidently communicate plans to refinery contractors (strong communication skills- written and verbal). 

· Ability to diagnose and solve problems during the actual applications. 

· Performs work safely in all settings. 

Acceptable Experience and Training 

· Documented mechanical aptitude or formal mechanical education. Preference is given to those with process knowledge of upgrader, refinery or petrochemical units. 

Required Certificates and/or Licenses

· Valid passport and driver’s license. 

Working Conditions 

· Works within a regional shop and refinery environments.

Physical Demands 

· Physical ability to lift, climb ladders and spend 12-16 hours on shift. 

Safety Equipment/Apparel (This position requires the wearing or use of the following equipment and/or apparel.)

· This position requires the use of company supplied PPE in connection with various refinery and safety council standards.

Required Travel

· Ability to travel to multiple North American markets for supporting a growing list of clients. Out of town assignments can range from 3-15 days in length.
