Together 21st Century Charter School, Gary Middle College, and GEO Next Generation High School Indianapolis are delivering a high-quality learning experience to parents and students in Indiana. GEO Academies are tuition-free public charter schools that serve students in grades K-12. Our dedicated faculty is committed to providing an outstanding education for students each day as they transition from elementary school to middle school to high school and COLLEGE. Through strategic partnerships with local colleges and universities, our students can take dual credit courses on respective college campuses earning college credits and viable experience at no cost to the student or their family. Our curriculum and teaching methods are student-focused utilizing Core Knowledge, Teach Like a Champion as we push our scholars to achieve and successfully matriculate into their next phase of life.

Academic tutors are responsible for leading one-on-one or small group lessons that cater to students’ needs and goals, including homework, reviewing principals, solving problems, and reviewing for tests. There are open positions for Mathematics and English Language Arts tutors at 21st Century Charter School in Gary, and GEO Next Generation High School in Indianapolis.

REPORTS TO/TERM:

• Principal and Administrative Team
• Part Time, approximately 20 hours per week

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:

• A Classroom Tutor is required to perform the following duties:
• Motivate and support students in reaching high levels of academic success
• Assist students with homework, projects, and test preparation
• Work with students to help them understand key concepts that are learned in the classroom
• Conduct practice tests to track progress, identify areas of improvement, and help set goals for exam preparation
• Perform targeted individual assistance and small group tutoring
• Facilitate Math and ELA labs to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills, and approaches to answering test questions
• Maintain frequent communication with students and their support network regarding academic progress
• Communicate and collaborate with teachers and school administrators
• Maintain high behavioral expectations for all students
• Participate in staff development opportunities
• Ensure the security of computer equipment and accessories
• Uphold all school policies
• Perform additional job-related duties as assigned which may include, but are not limited to SAT prep, ACT prep, PSAT prep, 21st Century Scholar Success Program tasks

Job Type: Part-time

Salary: $25.00 per hour

Schedule:

• Day shift
• No weekends

Experience:

• working with or around high school students: 1 year (Preferred)

 REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Commitment to the mission and organizational goals of GEO Academies
• Must be at least 20 years of age
• Ability to connect with youth authentically
• Must show proof of proficiency in Mathematics or English Language Arts
• Must have at least a 2.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale
• Ability to pass a background check
• Availability between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:06 p.m. Monday through Friday
