POSITION SUMMARY 

The Transportation Technician supports the transportation operation of the organization ensuring all commercial vehicles and equipment are maintained and operational. The Transportation Technician maintains a record of preventive maintenance services performed and repairs completed on all vehicles and equipment, is accountable for tools and equipment, and maintains an inventory of assigned parts and supplies.

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

  • Maintains vehicles, which may include cars, trucks, tractor/trailers, and any other company vehicles to OEM and DOT specifications. 
  • Performs routine and preventive maintenance including oil changes and tune ups, per manufacturer guidelines 
  • Replacing and repairing semi tires  
  • Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems such as brakes, lights, belts, water pumps, tires, and other mechanical parts 
  • Performs tests on specific parts and systems to confirm proper mechanical function; ensures that all critical parts are examined 
  • Respond to service calls at other locations; identifies problems either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment; records and reports damaged, worn, or broken parts; and installs replacement parts 
  • Thoroughly cleans equipment and parts, removing parts and reinstalling as necessary 
  • Oils and lubricates moving parts on equipment to ensure effective performance 
  • Cleans, organizes, inventories, stocks, and otherwise maintains shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies 
  • Conduct annual inspections on tractor and trailers 
  • Maintain documentation of inspections and repairs  
  • Trailer and dumpster fabrication  
  • Attend and participate in internal meetings and be constantly training and staying current on required certifications 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management

Requirements

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Extensive knowledge of all aspects of vehicle repair and maintenance 
  • Excellent mechanical repair skills

  • Skilled at driving and parking large, heavy vehicles 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent  
  • Vocational/technical school program or apprenticeship in auto repair or related field required 
  • At least five years of automotive and maintenance experience 
  • Certified to conduct annual inspections and brake adjustments or possess ability to become certified in accordance with federal guidelines 
  • Drivers license & clean driving record 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, reach, and squat to perform repairs and inspections 
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times 
  • Work environment involves frequent and/or regular exposure to natural and unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises
