POSITION SUMMARY:
Supports effective functioning of Audiology Clinic. Provides assistance with medical insurance billing, coding, and collections. Assists with customer service to patients by answering phones, scheduling appointments, checking in patients, maintaining electronic medical records, and performing other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISOR: Director of Audiology Clinic
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with scheduling and maintaining clinic flow, ensuring that patients are scheduled appropriately and paperwork and/or inventory is in order prior to patient visits.
- Performs insurance eligibility and benefit checks prior to patient visits. Understands insurance billing and private pay billing. Determines actual payment due for office visit or hearing aid dispensing. Post payments from patients and multiple insurances for balance due.
- Assists with submitting prior authorizations and referral requests on patients’ behalf, following up if denials are obtained.
- Sets up electronic medical charts in compliance with clinic licensure requirements. Makes certain that all administrative aspects of the clinic are in compliance with the Department of Public Health as well as all contracted insurances, understanding that a spontaneous site visit is likely.
- Works with Revenue Cycle Manager to coordinate with past due collection payments for patients.
- Assists at the front desk, which may include (but not limited to) answering telephone calls, scheduling patient appointments, verifying insurance, checking in/out patients, collecting co-pays/deductibles/balance due, checking in inventory, and other general office support and clerical duties.
- Maintain accurate and up-to date patient records and referring physician database.
- Medical billing and coding certification or commensurate experience
- Proficient understanding and experience with IDC10 and CPT coding
- Awareness of issues with reimbursement and collections
- Follow HIPAA and policies and procedures
- Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to effectively handle details with accuracy
- Experience with practice management software
- Flexible, motivated, organized, and team-oriented
- Some proficient skill in American Sign Language or willingness to learn
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be physically able to perform all duties of the job including frequent lifting up to 25 pounds, bending, reaching above shoulder level, climbing stairs, pulling, typing, prolonged standing or sitting.
