About Marie Philip School:

MPS enrolls nearly 200 deaf and hard of hearing students on our Framingham, MA campus in an ASL/English bilingual, bicultural educational model.


About Walden School:

Walden School is a nationally-recognized residential therapeutic and education program for deaf children and youth ages 8 to 22 who have often experienced significant adverse childhood events as well as language deprivation.


POSITION SUMMARY:

 The Learning Center for the Deaf is seeking a dynamic, passionate, energetic person to assume the role of Director of Health Services to create programmatic vision while representing the Nursing Department to the campus at large. As an administrator, she/he establishes department directions, provides supervision of nursing staff, participates in Director’s Meeting, and administers a budget to meet the overall institution’s and/or Health Services Department goals. The Director of Health Services provides leadership in the supervision of all health related activities at The Learning Center for the Deaf. 


FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the school’s mission statement and strategic plan across the healthcare continuum. 
  • Participate in hiring the Consulting School Pediatrician and Psychiatrist(s) and maintaining collaboration with all re: health related issues. 
  • Responsible for maintaining the Comprehensive School Health Service Grant.
  • Direct and promote the professional development of the nursing staff. 
  • Responsible for reviewing and implementing, and then ensuring compliance with standards set by accrediting agencies. 
  • Set and implement policies to ensure regulatory compliance with The Board of Registration in Nursing, The Department Of Elementary and Secondary Education, The Department of Early Education and Care, and The Department of Public Health. 
  • Support and implement the standards of nursing practice and guidelines of care. 
  • Plan, organize, and direct the activities of the nursing department and the environment in which healthcare is delivered, with accountability for administrative and direct care services. 
  • Consult with all school department supervisors concerning health related matters. Maintain and/or negotiate contracts for nursing agency services. Plan and provide student health promotion programs. 
  • Manager Health and Wellness committee. 
  • Provide staff education regarding medication, psychiatric symptomatology. 
  • Liaison to The Department of Public Health, School Health Division, and the Division of Food and Drugs to maintain authorization of full delegation of prescription medication administration to unlicensed personnel, maintain CLIA registration every two years. 
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors, especially physicians, in areas such as Health Policy and Procedure development and re: any health risks to the community, such as MRSA infection, flu outbreak, or any pandemics that impacts The Learning Center for the Deaf. 
  • Performs other tasks as directed by the Supervisor. 
Requirements
  • Fluent in American Sign Language, or willingness to learn 
  • Valid license to practice as a Professional Registered Nurse in the state of Massachusetts 
  • Bachelor or Masters’ degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program or a Bachelor or Masters’ degree in a related field preferred
  • Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education licensure as a school nurse (or eligible to apply) 
  • Seven to ten years of relevant background in the medical and psychiatric field with demonstrated competency and five years experience in nursing administration and leadership practices preferred 
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to articulate and incorporate the nursing service perspective into the schools systems and communication network that are multi level and multidisciplinary in nature 
  • Experience in a therapeutic residential program a plus
