POSITION SUMMARY

The Yard Manager is responsible for implementing best practices and developing processes across the organization. The key fundamentals of this role include formulating strategy, improving performance, managing resources, and ensuring compliance. This is a leadership role that will mentor team members, and increase customer service. The successful candidate will possess a depth of experience that helps excel in the areas of compliance, efficiency, and profitability in a cross-functional approach to business growth.

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

  • Manage all day-to-day operations of assigned yard including employee relations, customer relations, and achieving operational goals 
  • Implement new directives for growth 
  • Build effective relationships with upper management, and support team members 
  • Serve as liaison between the upper management and the field 
  • Achieve revenue goals by effectively leading team members, team productivity, and payables and receivables in a cost efficient way 
  • Increase customer retention and support growth through marketing and promotional objectives 
  • Ensure successful execution of operational standards, in compliance with state, federal, and established company policies and procedures 
  • Maintain oversight of overall facility and team member hours daily and weekly in order to make effective staffing recommendations  
  • Monitor production KPIs 
  • Build office morale by promoting a collaborative team environment 
  • Analyze, practice performance, and recruit, train, and supervise team members 
  • Manage inventory, drive efficiencies to increase customer experience 
  • Improve operational management systems, processes, and best practices 
  • Lead strategic financial and operational objectives to improve profitability of the yard 
  • Open/Close yard per company policy

Requirements

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Proven work experience in a similar role in the recycling industry 
  • Knowledge of the ferrous and non-ferrous metals  
  • Knowledge of organizational effectiveness and operations management 
  • Familiarity with business and financial principles 
  • Ability to inspire, influence, and coach teams to success 
  • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to maintain professionalism in difficult and stressful situations 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 Years of Leadership or Management Experience 
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferred 
  • 3 Years of Recycle Processing Experience 
  • Heavy Equipment Experience, preferred 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods on uneven surfaces 
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull a minimum of 25 pounds 
  • Frequently climb up and down ladders; crouch and bend at the knee; stoop or bend at the waist; reach arms overhead; and twist and turn at the neck and trunk 
  • Continually handle and grasp levers and dials; continuous leg and foot motion when using pedals 
  • Work environment involves frequent and/or regular exposure to natural and unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises 
  • Ability to spend prolonged periods of time sitting at a desk and working on a computer
