About Toole Design

Toole Design is the leading engineering, planning, and landscape architecture firm specializing in multimodal transportation. Since our start in 2003 as a single office in Maryland, we have expanded throughout the United States and Canada. Our talented team of planners, landscape architects and engineers are committed to delivering quality work that meets the needs of all people, regardless of age, ability, race or gender. We have been named a "best firm to work for" and have one of the lowest staff turnover rates in the industry.

Every project our employees deliver directly and positively affects our communities. We are industry-leading experts, and we work hard to encourage a collaborative and team-oriented environment.

A Day in the Life of a Senior Civil Engineer

You are at the forefront of brainstorming creative solutions for challenging projects. You lead, support, and mentor an interdisciplinary team to deliver multimodal transportation infrastructure in a wide range of contexts from roadway reconstructions and streetscapes in highly urban settings to signature trail projects in suburban and rural areas that highlight and enhance the natural environment. You use programs such as AutoCAD or MicroStation in order to fulfill production work on your projects. You will share your knowledge with staff and clients, to develop feasibility studies, concept plans, and construction documents, as well mentor your colleagues to ensure that our projects are consistently of the highest quality.

You participate in business development pursuits in your home region as well as across our North American offices. Your job can sometimes be challenging, but you get to work with a close-knit team that is passionate about the work and the communities that you serve.

Work Schedule for a Senior Civil Engineer:

This full-time position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours a week. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home 2-3 days per week. This position is part of our full-time, on-site staff augmentation contract we have with the City of Austin’s Transportation Department.

Austin is one of the most exciting cities for multimodal transportation. Whether it’s helping to deliver Austin’s Mobility Bond projects, updating the City’s Urban Trails and Sidewalks Plans, designing high-comfort bikeways in Houston, or creating District-level Bike Plans for TxDOT, Toole Design is helping to shape the future of Texas.

Since 2017, a team of Toole Design engineers and planners have provided full-time, on-site staff augmentation to the City of Austin’s Transportation Department to deliver Mobility Bond projects. We are creating a new, standalone Austin office to complement this team by working on a range of planning and design projects across Texas, many of which are already underway. The contract supports the Bikeways, Safe Routes to School, and Sidewalk bond programs, and Transit Speed & Reliability work in partnership with the Capital Metro Transportation Authority. Our vision for our new Austin office is one that is talented, multidisciplinary, diverse, and cohesive.
