Director, Communications



Houston Endowment seeks an experienced professional to serve as Director of Communications and to lead a highly effective communications program that advances the foundation’s work.


  • Work with the President and senior leadership to develop and oversee a      comprehensive communications program with clear goals and strategies. 
  • Work collaboratively with the program team to design and embed impactful communications strategies into the programmatic work. 
  • Oversee the foundation’s website to serve as an effective tool for conveying the foundation’s mission and brand and for driving the foundation’s work. 
  • Launch and manage new communications channels across digital platforms. 
  • Proactively identify opportunities, challenges and emerging issues and develop appropriate communications approaches. 
  • Create a      wide variety of communications materials (e.g., speeches, presentations,      and op-eds) that present the foundation’s work and the complex issues we address in a relevant, understandable, and compelling way.         
  • Develop policies and procedures to support the communications function within the organization. 
  • Manage external consultants as needed. 
  • Serve as spokesperson and point person for media interaction. 



  • Successful experience in leading high-impact strategic communications.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Salary will be set in accordance with the successful candidate’s experience. In addition to salary, the candidate will be eligible for the Foundation’s comprehensive employee benefits programs, including health, dental, and vision plans, time off, life insurance, short- and long-term disability as well as matching 401(k) and pension retirement plans.
