POSITION SUMMARY:
The child watch coordinator is responsible for organizing all child watch functions for children age 6 weeks to 6 years old. Repsonsible for working 80% of the time in Child Watch, and 20% of the time doing admin. In addition, every position in the YMCA of East Tennessee is responsible for upholding the Judeo-Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the Y’s core values - caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
CORE FUNCTIONS:
1. Manage the daily scheduling of the child watch staff.
2. Fill in as a child watch staff worker when necessary.
3. Must be able to work a rotating schedule that may include evenings and weekend work.
4. Must be able to develop keep appropriate records for child watch area including enrollment, attendance, and special handling instructions.
5. Take all reasonable measures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the children in child watch.
6. Inventory, order and maintain necessary supplies for child watch.
7. Ensures the child watch area is maintained in a clean, safe and serviceable environment.
8. Follows all Y policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
9. Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
May manage subordinates in the department. Responsibilities may include assisting membership director with interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints. Disciplinary issues/concerns will be brought to the attention of the membership director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and /or ability required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or GED required plus one-two years related experience and or training. Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university is preferred. Combination of education and experience will be considered.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or scheduled form.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Frequently required to talk or hear. Occasionally required to stand, walk, sit and use hands and fingers. Employee may occasionally be required to lift 50 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
