Description

QuesTek Innovations LLC, located in Evanston, IL, a leader in the field of Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME), is seeking candidates for a Materials Engineer in its Applications Group to perform work related to technology development, project management, and supply chain management of component manufacturing.

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Experimental analysis in support of materials design, process optimization, and specification development
  • Project management related to manufacturing of specialized components/prototypes, ensuring process adherence to meet drawing requirements
  • Establish and maintain outside supply chain management in support of client engagements
  • Support activities related to materials technology development
  • Support proposal writing process to pursue new funding opportunities in the corporate and government sectors
  • Travel to client sites and vendors up to 30%

A strong understanding of physical metallurgy, manufacturing processes, and good communication skills (both written and oral) are essential. Preferred candidates will have a B.S. or M.S. degree in materials science and engineering, or related engineering discipline, and two to five years of industry experience in a subset of the following:

  • Standard project management methodology
  • Processing of materials (melting, hot/cold working, heat treatment)
  • Manufacturing of components (machining, thermal processing, and plating/painting)
  • Industry standards and specifications (AMS, ASME, ASTM, NACE, SAE, etc.) 
  • Exposure to mechanical testing techniques and analysis (e.g. tensile, fracture toughness, fatigue, etc.)
  • Exposure to physical testing techniques and analysis (corrosion, thermal properties, etc.)
  • Exposure to multiple material systems (e.g. steel, aluminum, titanium, copper, nickel, etc.)
  • Exposure to microscopy characterization techniques for microstructural analysis (e.g. optical, SEM, etc.)
  • Experience with additive manufacturing

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and will include incentive programs and competitive benefits such as health insurance and a 401(k). Due to the nature of the work under this position, QuesTek will only employ permanent United State Citizens or Green card holders.

QuesTek uses its proprietary Materials by Design® expertise to rapidly design and develop materials that reduce capital, processing, operating or maintenance costs, or improve environmental protection or competitive supply. QuesTek has licensed four alloys for production and sale and has many more alloys in development.

Requirements
  • MS or higher degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering or a related field
  • 2-4 years of practical experience in the field of materials development and/or engineering
  • 1-2 years of project management
  • Must possess high level analytical skills including advanced technical proficiency
  • Must have strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • May be required to travel to and navigate a variety of sites to fully understand material needs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
