Patient Account Representative
Description

SUMMARY:

Responsible for working and maintaining patient accounts as assigned by Accounts Receivable Manager. Duties include interaction with internal and external customers to resolve unpaid claims with insurance or personal balances with appropriate follow-up. Adherence to the “Flawless Reimbursement” system is required. Ultimate responsibility is to maximize reimbursement for Pinehurst Surgical as a group practice and to determine that the insurance carrier has paid correctly on all services per contractual or non-contractual agreements.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Processing patient payments and refunds.
  2. Identifying medical coding mistakes, typing errors, as well as patient underpayments or overpayments and rectifying them accordingly.
  3. Creating suitable payment plans for patients based on their monthly income and financial obligations.
  4. Communicating with medical insurance providers to verify whether patient treatments will be covered.
  5. Answering patients’ questions regarding unsettled medical bills, reimbursements, and billing discrepancies.
  6. Contacting patients through email, written correspondence, or telephone to inform them of overdue balances.


Requirements

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. 1-3 years of experience in medical billing preferred
  2. Previous experience working with the public with ability to maintain composure when confronted with fast-paced and stressful situations
  3. 2-year degree in related field preferred
  4. Knowledge and understanding of insurance and managed care plans
  5. Knowledge and understanding of billing and payment procedures, rules, and regulations of contractual and non-contractual insurance carriers
  6. Ability to speak clearly and concisely with pleasant attitude, and present a neat appearance
  7. Ability to read, comprehend, and follow oral and written instructions
  8. Ability to learn quickly in a fast paced healthcare environment.
