Senior Field Mechanical Engineer/ Project Manager
Description

The Senior Field Project Engineer holds a key position in the introduction of new bio-device products for the global poultry, livestock and aquaculture industries. This vacancy is to be filled with a highly creative, seasoned, hands-on engineer, who will lead the application of Targan’s bio-mechanical devices in our customers’ operational production facilities. Responsibilities range from initial characterization of customer operations, through the design of the installation and workflow, negotiation of customer acceptance of the design, and execution of site acceptance testing. Currently the role is focused on customers across the United States but includes the opportunity for international travel as Targan expands to markets in South America, Europe, and elsewhere. This position reports to the Director of Systems Engineering and interfaces closely with the manufacturing and field service organizations.

  • Characterize operations at customer site (initially in chicken hatcheries) including available space, existing workflow, existing equipment, installation ingress/egress, utility availability (electric, compressed air, water, drainage).
  • Develop layouts for integration of Targan equipment into customer operations including physical layout, integration with existing equipment, utilities, and workflow.
  • Collaborate with customers and field service representatives to refine layouts and find creative solutions to difficult installation conditions.
  • Together with a team of mechanical designers, develop complete designs with schematics and assembly drawings.
  • Collaborate with the manufacturing organization to ensure correct assembly of required components and execution of factory acceptance tests.
  • Provide technical guidance and resolve problems during the installation process and oversee site acceptance tests.
  • Collaborate with field service representatives to ensure smooth commissioning of the new equipment.

Education

Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field - required.


Experience and Certifications

Minimum 10 years’ experience in mechanical engineering or related field. – required.

Minimum of 5 years of hands-on industrial experience integrating automation equipment into operational factories/facilities - required.

Minimum of 3 years of experience leading engineering design teams of 2-4 people - required.

Demonstrated experience in designing, developing, and deploying industrial automation systems - required.

Experience designing sheet metal components and welded assemblies - required.

Experience developing motion-based electro-mechanical sub-systems - required.


Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes 

  • Proficient in designing parts and assemblies in Solidworks CAD platform – require 
  • Is there an electrical equivalent to the above

Physical Requirements

  • Normal periods of sitting and standing in an office environment.
  • Working outdoors in potentially inclement weather conditions.
  • Working at heights of up to 20 feet.

Working Conditions

Work is performed inside a flex space building consisting of offices, open desk space, laboratory, machine shop, and a manufacturing floor. Level of noise is usually quiet in the office environment and temperature controlled. Noise levels are elevated in the warehouse space where temperatures can vary depending on the outside elements and weather. Significant travel (up to 40%) will be required to customer sites (hatcheries).
