Description

The Cook is responsible for assisting the Food Service Manager/Head Cook in providing nutritious, well-prepared meals, which are served to all campers, staff, and guests.  This position is part-time.  


Key Functions

1. Prepare food as directed by the Food Service Manager/Head Cook

2. Make Food Service Manager/Head Cook aware of supplies that need to be ordered

3. Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen area 

4. Wash dishes as needed

5. Know and observe the rules of the kitchen

6. Be aware of and practice proper food handling techniques

 

Requirements


Qualifications: 


Experience and Background: 

  • At least 18 years old
  • Experience in institutional or food service setting
  • Desire to work in the food service area
  • Knowledge of standards of food preparation and serving, storage of food, and kitchen procedures.
  • Knowledge of current health and safety laws and practices is essential
  • Knowledge of and experience in preparation of special dietary needs
  • Knowledge of food service sanitation

Education:  

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required

Other Essential Functions:

  • Must submit health history record and examination form prior to first day of work
  • On-site housing may be required during the season at the convenience of the employer
  • Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff
  • Be willing to work flexible hours, early mornings/evenings/weekends are required

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds including unloading food, lifting supplies and equipment as needed
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards of the site and facilities and camper and staff behavior
  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate and operate kitchen equipment according to safe, recommended methods
  • Physical mobility and endurance to perform tasks while standing for long periods of time (60 minutes or more), bending, and stooping
  • Ability to provide first aid and to assist campers and staff in an emergency
  • Ability to determine cleanliness of dishes, food surfaces, and kitchen area
  • Ability to assess condition of food
