Description

QuesTek Innovations LLC, located in Evanston, IL, the leader in the field of Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME). We are seeking candidates for a Materials Engineer to perform work related to alloy design and development as part of QuesTek’s Technology group. QuesTek uses its proprietary Materials by Design® expertise to rapidly design and develop materials that reduce capital, processing, operating or maintenance costs, or improve environmental protection or competitive supply. QuesTek has licensed four alloys for production and sale and has many more alloys in development.

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Working with design and development engineers to derive designs of experiments and oversee production and analysis of newly designed materials and alloys.
  • Execution and documentation of designed experimental work in support of QuesTek projects.
  • Management of laboratory maintenance and organization.
  • Working with outside materials testing vendors to collect data.


Requirements

A strong understanding of physical metallurgy and good communication skills (both written and oral) are essential. Preferred candidates will have a B.S. or M.S degree in materials science and engineering, with knowledge and experience in:

Standard laboratory practices and safety:

  • Processing of materials (e.g. melting, hot/cold working, heat treating, additive manufacturing, and finishing processes such as coating/plating, superfinishing, peening, etc.)
  • Metallographic specimen preparation and analysis
  • Mechanical testing techniques and analysis (e.g. tensile, fracture toughness, fatigue, etc.)
  • Corrosion testing techniques and analysis (e.g. general corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, etc.)
  • Advanced characterization techniques such as X-ray Diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy,Energy-dispersive Spectroscopy, and others
  • A variety of alloy systems (e.g. steel, aluminum, titanium, copper, nickel, etc.)
  • ASTM standards and specifications
