Description

 LAEP is currently seeking a Center-Based Classroom Teacher who is responsible for the planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate infant/toddler classroom and center activities, meeting Head Start Performance Standards and State Regulations.


*Hours: 9:00am - 6:00pm*

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and implement a high quality curriculum that meets the physical, social, emotional, intellectual, health, and nutritional needs of each child in accordance to Head Start and state standards.
  • Provide feedback in a supportive, instructive and non-judgmental way; enhancing the ability of teaching staff to observe children’s activities and experiences as part of the ongoing assessment process and to use this information to individualize the
  • Evaluate classroom quality using the Early Childhood Education Rating Scale (ECERS) and other assessment
  • Provide opportunities for children to use their creative abilities, and to explore and experiment with a variety of media through art, music, drama in all aspects of the
  • Maintain a vibrant, well-arranged and orderly classroom; develop a plan to ensure the safety of the children while they are using indoor and outdoor
  • Ensure that the environment meets safety standards established by the program and is in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Inspect facilities for hazardous conditions, unsafe equipment and materials following an emergency exit plan and conducts monthly emergency exit
  • Work with the Center-Based Manager to ensure balanced, child-directed and adult-directed activities are implemented daily, including individual and small group experiences for children to support skill development in literacy, language and numeracy, to encourage critical thinking, problem solving skills, creativity and concept forming according to the developmental level of each
  • Ensure that ALL education aspects of the health, nutrition, mental health, safety, diversity and cultural awareness are integrated into the class
  • Ensure a variety of strategies to promote and support children’s learning and development using informal and formal observations, on-going assessments, and documentation of progress, which are maintained in portfolios for each

Requirements

 Absolute Must-Haves (Requirements):

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA) or higher in Early Childhood Education preferred
  • Child Development Associate AA plus a CDA Credential required
  • 3 units in infant/toddler development
  • Experience teaching early childhood required
  • Good computer skills required. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Work and Excel). Head Start knowledge preferred

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the Center-Based Classroom Teacher is frequently required to sit; stand; stoop; bend; walk; talk; hear; use hands to grip, type; reach with hands and arms, occasionally required to stand or walk on uneven surfaces; and climb stairs.

 Health Requirements:

  • TB test or TB clearance within 6 months’ prior
  • Physical examination at the time of employment

Licensing and Certification Requirements:

  • Daily driving could be required, must provide own vehicle, valid Driver’s License and proof of full vehicle insurance
  • Negative tuberculosis screen (required).
  • Must pass a criminal background

Salary Description
$23-$27 hour
