The Senior Accounting Associate will be a key member of the Company's accounting and finance team and will work closely with the Assistant Controller. This position will be responsible for managing the accounts payable process, preparation of journal entries, reconciliation of general ledger accounts, preparation of the Company's publicly filed financial statements and implementing the Company's internal control objectives. In addition, the position will prepare financial analysis and support the Company's quarterly and annual financial statements and year-end audit.
The Senior Accounting Associate will also be a key member of the finance department and support the preparation of quarterly forecasts and budgets, including interfacing with other department leads to translate project plans into financial projections, and other ad-hoc analysis as required. This includes the preparation of the budget/forecast as well as providing explanations for actual to budget/forecast variances for each quarterly period.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Administer all aspects of the Company’s accounts payable process, including vendor set-up, accurate vendor invoice entry, properly coding of each invoice to the proper general ledger account and obtaining the appropriate approvals.
- Prepare and initiate periodic payment runs
- Prepare monthly journal entries with proper documentation. These include recurring and non-standard entries to be posted to the general ledger.
- Execute and prepare mid-level general ledger account reconciliations, understand all balances and activity, and research/resolve any unreconciled differences in a timely manner.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements including the preparation, support and documentation of assigned financial statement footnotes and disclosures.
- Maintain efficient processes and an internal control structure for all areas of responsibility,
- Be involved in the selection, implementation and testing of the Company’s next ERP system as well as ancillary new systems from time to time.
- Participate in the preparation of quarterly company forecasts; consolidate and analyze budgets and income statement forecasts
- Maintain and administer the Company’s current forecast databases
- Work with various department leads to create new forecasts by identifying upcoming projects and monitoring which projects are on track and which are behind
- Develop and consolidate entity and multi-department budgets as directed
- Perform analysis of actual results at corporate and department levels
- Perform special projects as required by management.
Requires a Bachelors’ degree in accounting, a CPA certification (or working towards a CPA certification) a plus. A minimum of 4 years work experience required, with Big 4 or national firm public accounting and life science industry experience preferred. Must have experience in a public company and familiarity with accounting and corporate finance principles and procedures.
