Direct Support Professionals (DSP) encourage people to experience various activities in community based locations and to also explore all that is available in Anne Arundel County. Direct support professionals "are the foundation of our work" sharing their passions and talents while providing person-centered supports enabling people to live, work, and enjoy life as independently as possible in their community. DSPs job duties can range from helping people meet physical (e.g., health, grooming, toileting, eating) needs, teaching skills, providing supports, and building on individual strengths and capabilities that will lead to increased independence to facilitating community outings, job training, volunteer opportunities and much more.

Communication - The DSP builds trust and productive relationships with people supported, co-workers and others through respectful and clear verbal and written communication.
Person-Centered Practices - The DSP uses person-centered practices, assisting people to make choices and plan goals, and provides services to help people achieve their goals.
Crisis Prevention and Intervention - The DSP identifies risk and behaviors that can lead to a crisis and uses effective strategies to prevent or intervene in the crisis in collaboration of others.
Safety - The DSP is attentive to signs of abuse, neglect or exploitation and follows procedures to protect people from such harm. They help people avoid unsafe situations and uses appropriate procedures to assure safety during emergency situations.
Health and Wellness - The DSP plays a vital role in helping people to achieve and maintain good physical and emotional health essential to their well-being.
Vocational, Educational & Career Support - The DSP is knowledgeable about career and education related concerns of the person and should be able to mobilize the resources and support necessary to assist the person to reach their goals.
Community Inclusion and Networking - The DSP helps people to be part of the community through valued roles and relationships, and assists people with major transitions that occur in community life.
Cultural Competency - The DSP respects cultural differences and provides services and supports that fit with the person’s preferences.

Direct Support Professionals must meet the below listed requirements:
Valid driver's license (Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia); NOT provisional
Reliable transportation
Ability/willingness to transport people in personal and/or company vehicle
High school diploma/GED
Computer skills
Ability to lift 30-50 pounds
