OYC STEM Instructors blend Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) concepts with an approach that encourages a hands-on learning experience while giving students the opportunity to gain and apply relevant, "real-world" information in the classroom. Through a STEM-rich curriculum, you are responsible for helping students in grades K-12th develop and apply their knowledge. OYC encourages its instructors to use creative methods that give students the best learning experience! Lessons may also be designed in collaboration with OYC teachers. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 


  • Identify resources, plan, and design STEM enrichment activities to support student growth in learning about science, technology, engineering, math, and other related areas 
  • Provide enrichment instruction focused on STEM themes/topics
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
  • Promote a positive image and perspective of OYC
  • Contribute to a harmonious atmosphere by working intelligently and cooperatively with students and colleagues
  • Ability to manage classroom behavior
  • Ability to engage students at all levels
  • Assist in supervising groups of students on field trips, bus routes and other activities held at the OYC. Use interpersonal skills to support students in various settings.
  • Mentor/counsel students and encourage social inclusion.
  • Attend meetings conferences and training sessions.
  • Provide support and advice to young people experiencing difficulties, such as family problems, peer pressure, etc.
  • Work closely with volunteers and partners as assigned.
  • Be a good role model for students.
  • Maintains classroom equipment/storage room in an orderly fashion
  • Ensure that all equipment/supplies are working properly and in good standing.

Requirements

 

  • Minimum of an AA degree
  • Additional certifications considered an advantage- advanced degree from an accredited college or university
  • Deep knowledge of content standards, effective instructional strategies, and assessment driven instruction
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working with students
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Basic computer skills/ Microsoft Office
  • Ability to carry out responsibilities and adapt to changing needs and goals
  • Flexibility is required (hours, job functions, etc.) 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Must pass drug screening and Level 2 background check
