Description

Summary: The Hospital Security Manager will oversee the healthcare security operations, as well as the supervision and training of the healthcare security officers to ensure full coverage of posts. Essential functions of the position include:


#1- Leadership- Provides supervision for MDIH Security Department. Serves as a role model to enhance/develop staffs' security expertise, critical thinking, communication skills and professional behavior.


#2 – Administrative Responsibilities - Ensures appropriate staffing levels, mix and competency; compliance with all Hospital and regulatory agencies' policies, procedures and requirements, and the provision of quality patient care. 


#3 – Security Duties

· Maintains security logs of periodic rounds and ensures all officers are completing rounds.

· Maintains the technical competencies required by area of professional practice including de-escalation training and conflict resolution.

· Serves as a resource person for medical and nursing staff in caring for patients that present difficult, or potentially violent or self harm behaviors. 


#4 – Responsibility/Accountability - Accepts accountability for actions and work assigned. Delegates work appropriately to staff; supervising, evaluating and holding them accountable for completion of such work.


#5 – Other Duties:

  • Monitoring security cameras and alarm systems for signs of unusual activity
  • Patrolling hospital grounds to ensure that patients are safe from harm
  • Reporting any security breaches or illegal activity to security supervisors or other authorities as needed
  • Performing physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling patients or equipment
  • Inspecting visitor identification cards to ensure that they belong to approved persons
  • Conducting routine security checks of rooms and equipment to prevent theft or damage
  • Responding to fire alarms and other emergencies to help ensure the safety of patients and staff members
  • Coordinating with police officers and other emergency responders in case of a security breach or medical emergency
  • Conducting security checks on staff members who have access to sensitive areas of the hospital

Requirements

  

Education, Training or Certifications Required:

1. High School Graduate or equivalent.

2. 5 Years experience as Security Officer is preferred.


Experience Required:

1. 2 years management experience preferred. 

2. Demonstrated leadership abilities and a commitment to Quality Improvement and Service Excellence.


Special Requirements:

1. Possess computer skills.

2. Ability to cope effectively and help others cope with stress.

3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills essential.

4. Ability to work effectively under pressure.


Cognitive Requirements:

1. Must be able to prioritize workload and follow through.

2. Ability to evaluate effectiveness/appropriateness of services, including resource utilization and allocation.


Physical Demands:

1. Able to sit, stand and/or walk for a 12-hour shift.

2. Adequate hearing, vision, speech and manual dexterity to communicate with the patients and to complete any necessary daily tasks.

3. General health must be such as to regularly work scheduled hours.
