What is the role of the Grading Division? The Grading Division is in the Construction Group. Our grading crews build the foundations for our projects. Our grading crews will build large commercial sites, widen highways and interstates, and work on special projects including building the new Hugh Leatherman Terminal for the SC Ports Authority, widening of Glenn McConnell Parkway, and other high profile roadway expansions.


What is a Grading Foreman? The Grading Foreman runs a grading crew and ensures the project tasks set by the Project Superintendent are being properly completed, and the crew is properly staffed, and equipped.

What you will get to do:

  • Responsible for the interpretation of the construction drawings and specifications related to the Project.
  • Inspect work progress, equipment, or construction sites to verify safety or to ensure that specifications are met.
  • Train workers in construction methods, operation of equipment, safety procedures, or company policies.
  • Locate, measure, and mark site locations or placement of structures or equipment, using measuring and marking equipment.
  • Confer with managerial or technical personnel, other departments, or contractors to resolve problems or to coordinate activities.
  • Direct crew members as to the proper procedures to build the job safely, on time and under budget.
  • Work directly with the Project Superintendent to ensure client needs are being met.
  • Record information, such as personnel, production, or operational data on specified forms or reports.
  • Suggest or initiate personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, or hires.

  • Even better if you have experience managing paving crews
  • Even better if you have experience operating asphalt paving equipment
