Universal Metro Asian Services is a Not-For-Profit organization that aims to serve immigrant populations of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Middle East, Latin America and Europe.

UMAS is a small, family run organization. The perceptive employee would need to have experience with that or have experience wearing multiple hats. In addition, perceptive employee should be able to work autonomously, be a self-starter, and have initiative and lots of follow through.


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide for the safe and timely transportation of Adult Day Service Center participants to and from the center. This includes observing all rules of the road and other safe driving practices. Assist participants to get in and out of the van as appropriate. Never leave participants unattended.
  • Provide transportation as needed for UMAS participants for field trips and other outings.
  • Ensure that the vehicle is safe to drive through daily inspections as specified in UMAS policies and procedures.
  • Monitor the condition of Universal Industries vehicles and correct and/or report any concerns to supervisor.
  • Observe and report any changes in participant's behavior or physical condition. Report the outcome of any conversations with participants, families or caregivers.
  • Other duties are related or assigned.
  • Take appropriate action according to UMAS Policies in case of Emergency.
  • Participate in all kind of activities for Fundraiser.


Requirements

Qualifications include:

  • Education/Certification: Valid driver's license (in the state of Illinois) with a safe and verifiable driving record. High School degree required.
  • Experience: Pervious driving experience around Chicagoland.
  • Previous experience in working with older adults or in an adult day care environment preferred but not necessary.
  • Documentation of a physical examination no more than six months prior to employment which documents the employee is free of communicable disease.
  • CPR certification, or willing to become certified, is required.
  • First Aid certification, or willing to become certified, is required.
  • Illinois Department on Aging regulations requires Universal Industries to perform a background check on all UMAS staff.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Word, Powerpoint, Excel, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills, including oral, written and presentation
  • Self-motivated, creative, flexible and results driven
  • Ability to be a productive team member/player


Additional qualifications include:

  • Being fluent in Hindi/Urdu or Guajarati preferred
